Nick from Widnes England Writes:

I posted the question choice your one and only favourite Paul Simon song and why. This had 18 replies all of whom said just one was too difficult.

Ok this time chose your ultimate set list.

Rules you must include some Simon and Garfunkel songs in the set list and from all the different time periods in Paul´s solo years.

OK my choice:

1: Me And Julio Down By The School Yard
2: American Tune
3: Duncan
4: Homeward Bound
5: I Am A Rock
6: Hearts And Bones
7: Boy In The Bubble
8: Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes
9: Graceland
10: The Boxer
11: A Hazy Shade Of Winter
12: Late Great Johnny Ace
13: America
14: Cecilia
15: Father and Daughter
16: Only Living Boy In New York
17: Koda Chrome
18: Late In The Evening
19: Mother And Child Reunion

Encores:
20: Bridge Over Troubled Water
21: Hazy Shade Of Winter
22: Sound Of Silence

Not easy and yes I missed a few out over to you guys

Yes you can add if you want your own dream backing band too.

Nowadays all concerts should end with Wartime Prayers. I wouldn´t have have so much S&G stuff a medley like that done on the YTO tour would be sufficient. The Coast, Obvious Child and She Moves On would be included And off course something from Capeman (Bernadette or Trailways Bus). and start off with Still Crazy!

Hmmm tough choice. I like the backing band he used for his last solo tour. Just want Steve Gadd back on drums for 50 ways!

4.Obvious Child
5.Pigs, Sheep and Wolves
6.Outrageous
7.Bernadette
8.Further To Fly
9.You´re The One
10.Proof
11.Graceland
12.Boy In The Bubble
13.America
14.Me and Julio
15.50 ways
16.Hearts And Bones
17.Ace In The Hole
18.The Only Living Boy In NY
19.Sounds Of Silence
20.You Can Call Me Al

Encore:
21.Song About The Moon
22.Homeward Bound

Not many changes in your dream setlists to the setlists he is playing since 10 years :)

BTW, I still think in 2000/2002 he had the best and most complete band.
It is hard to compare it to the 1991 band, but in 1991 everything they played got this african/south american style.
In 2000 he played songs like ´One man´s ceiling´ or The late great Johnny Ace., and he had a great rhythm and trumpet section (class 1A players). Now the band is a few members smaller, and you hear that they have to improvise on some instruments.

So the best band.

Steve Gadd - drums
Tony Levin - bass (he is so cool now, but I also really like Bakithi)
Mark Stewart - guitar
Ray Phiri - guitar
Jamey Haddad - percussion
Mingo Araàºjo - percussion
Chris Botti - trumpet
Michael Breker - saxophone...(rip)
Jay Ashby - Trombone
Tony Cedras - accoredeon (who else?)
Richard Tee - piano (rip)

For me Vincent also belongs in my favorite band, I would like a bigger hornsection and Cyro Baptista on percussion. Back in the setlist The Coast and Cool Cool River and a few Capeman songs.

A revolution :)
But I thought Ray Phiri´s style of playing the guitar was so funny and unique, and you would not need 3 guitar players beside Paul. So Vincent has to take a break.

Seems unnecessary to hear this song twice! ;-)

I think Allergies would be great live in concert. Did Paul perform this live at any time other than the solo acoustic tour in 1984 ? If not, anyone know why ?

Helen,

Simon & Garfunkel played Allergies in the Wellington NZ concert of February 1983. I assume they would have played this throughout the rest of that February 1983 NZ & Australia tour.

This was before the CD was released and I guess Artie probably thought it was still going to be a Simon & Garfunkel CD at that time.

Hi Gerard,
Thanks, didn´t think to look up the S&G concerts in 1983.
I´ve read some of your post in past threads about Allergies in that concert. Sounds like it would have been great, especially great it it was played now. It would definitely be on my ultimate set list. It´s representative of very different style. Can´t think of another song like it.
