 | My web searching has come up with the following band list so far -
Mark Stewart & Rob Schwimmer
Andy Snitzer
Definitely no Pino Palladino (sadly) as he will be working in June/July for THE WHO. And no Steve Gadd, on tour with James Taylor.
Probably no Baghiti Kumalo as he keeps his site well up to date.
Jamey Haddad´s & Warren Bernhardt´s website are not up to date. Hopefully they will be part of the tour. I think Warren´s piano playing is a highlight of the 2003 shows.
Couldn´t find anything about Larry Saltzman or Jim Keltner
Vincent Nguini is the other player I would most like to see included.

 | Thanks for the info Gerard. I´ve been looking for information too. It astonishes me that such well known musicians as most of these are,and this includes Paul himself unfortunately, have such poorly run websites. You would think it would be in their own best interests to employ someone to keep them up to date. |

 | Most of them not but there are a few who even Twitter. Neil Diamond told on his Twitter site:
"Heard a couple of new Paul Simon songs. Paul himself played them for me, they were among the best he´s ever written. I better get to work."

 | I got this site from an information program on dutch TV, they give always computer news and tips.
I think this is Neil himself. I signed in on the official Twitter site and there I can follow Neil also, he has the same messages as on the celebrity page, which is just another link to the Twitter site.

 | I know that some stars have ´Ghost Twitterers´ as was evident in a recent posting by Hugh Jackman, but I absolutely believe this is Neil Diamond. |

 | Well that certainly sounds promising!
Rob Schwimmer would be great and I hope that Bakithi will eventually jump on board, they really would liven things up. |

 | Hm - yes it sounds very good, but I also have doubts that all these celebrities have nothing better to do than writting thes short and sometimes useless messages on the internet.
I would believe the ghost-writer theory, or a personal manager who is doin these things.
I mean - most of the time these celebritys can be happy if the find a quiet place without any fans, so why should the sit down on their computer and write messages to their fans then?
Today we are in such a marketing society that you can not see the difference between reality and fake sometimes. Remember when it started with bands like Milli Vanilli in the 80´s, then all these produced boybands...fake fake fake.
So I seriously doubt this twitter things, because it is so hm...produced. Look - you can choice from a list of hundred stars or more.
(While on the other hand there are some celebrities writing a lot on the internet, and they really do that - but you see that they write more than 10 word sentences)
I like the mysterium around Pauls private life, I would not want him to write messages like ´Oh I drunk 2 beers yesterday with my buddies´ |

 | Neil Diamond is a rich man who is more on the soft music side as Barry Manilow or Paul Anka.
But he always knew about his limits and admires Paul Simon ("a standard of excellence" he stated in the 80`s).
Around 1970 he covered "Red Rubber Ball" which Simon described as the worst hit he ever wrote. It was a hit for the group "The Cyrcle" in the 60´s. |

 | Yeah Klausi,I remember that Neil Diamond interview in Rolling Stone magazine in 1988 I think. He also said Paul was a talented guitar player, which was a nice compliment. When I think about all the singer/songwriters/guitarists from the last 35 years or so,I find it hard to categorise Paul´s place within his peer group. Is he closer to a James Taylor or Neil Diamond? I would say Diamond would be comfortably placed alongside say,John Denver. Neil Young could be placed in the Bob Dylan camp, although Neil, like Paul, deserves his own category. All of these musicians I admire actually, and you could add Jim Croce,Gorden Lightfoot,Yusef Islam, as well to the list. What sets Paul apart from all of these artists? Is it his intellectual approach to the art form? I only know that when I compare Paul´s music with that of (most) of the other names I mentioned, their music comes across as merely pretty,or catchy, but Paul´s music always has added depth or weight to it. Hard to explain,Sorry! |

 | I certainly would put Paul Simon more in the Bob Dylan/Neil Young/Joni Mitchell section - you might throw Leonard Cohen in there as well . My reasoning is that their songs can stand on their own with out the music and also the variety of style. For the music itself, I think Paul Simon stands out on his own. Neil Diamond I would put closer to John Denver (but not too close!) Billy Joel nearly Paul Simon but..? Cat Stevens would have been in the John Denver catagory, but I think Yusef Islam has raised the bar somewhat.
Lets face Paul Simon is just the best of them all, and its a shame not more people are aware of that. But since when did the masses know better!!:)) |

 | I guess Joni Mitchell is next to him, but only until the late seventies.
I respect Peter Gabriel, am disappointed about Sting`s last works. James Taylor cannot compete I think. Bob Dylan and Neil Young have other purposes, but they are great.
If you have 15 Euros left, buy Kari Bremnes "Norwegian woods" (title right?). She sings english and she is really great.
On her other albums she remains in her own language, which sounds a little strange to us.
Generally spoken promising talents do not have the time to develop because the public expects fast and similar work from them and record sales are in the red figures.
To become famous only with live appearances is difficult, but the big acts earn their money with those shows.
The Police, Eagles, Rolling Stones, Tina Turner or Genesis have broken their promise to not sing live anylonger several times.
S&G will tour too. |
