Nick from Widnes England writes:

Should Simon and Garfunkel release a DVD of their 2009 Tour of Austrlia/Japan and New Zeland. I think they should as they both include a solo section in the middle of the show highlighting the best of their individual songs. Also the band is slightly diffrerent so it would be very interesting to watch and compare to the Old Freinds Tour DVD.

What do u guys think. Over to You!!

Great idea Nick.I went to the concert on 23/06/09 at Sydney arena. It was the best show I have been to. Band was brilliant and Paul and Artie harmonised beautifully, Solo sets were both great and Paul nearly took the roof of the arena with his. i have never heard his voice sound better!they both seemed relaxed and enjoying themselves. there were cameras at a few of the shows here so you never know! It could well be their last tour together so you never know. If that is true I think there is a good chance there will be a DVD.

I´d prefer to have a DVD of Paul´s Suprise tour, I´ve already got two S&G dvd tour concerts. I´d Love to see them live, but I´m not bothered so much about another tour DVD. Paul, for what ever reasone, never released one for his last solo tour :(

I went to 2 Sydney concerts and 2 in New Zealand. Also, went to all 3 New York concerts of Dec 2003 which became the Old Friends CD/DVD.

NZ/Australia concerts were great and yes band was different, but other than Mrs Robinson I don´t beleive that a live DVD would really add much to the Old Friends DVD.

The sad thing is that Paul Simon´s solo segment was too short and Art Garfunkels too long and that some of Paul´s band were grossly under utilised, name8ly Vincent Nguini and Andy Snitzer.

Yes, a live full concert DVD of the 2006 Surprise Tour would be much better value, and yes 1991 CP concert is long overdue a DVD with 5.1 sound release.

Mickie, if you want a taste of Paul´s 2006 surprise tour, you need to sign up to DIME and download the BBC St Lukes TV broadcast (60 minutes only half the concert, but well worth getting - in HD and with 5,1 sound). Also, for the complete concert the best is the 2CD Philadelphia concert live FM broadcast of the whole concert (last show of the USA tour). I have both these permanently seeding from my PC to DIME users.

Both well worth getting.

I guess the BBC 2006 show was our ´official DVD´ - a good deal for Paul maybe. I am not sure how many numbers from the YTO in Paris have been sold, but it might not have been a very good deal (?)
And as Paul hasn´t changed his setlist nor his band dramatically in the last 9 years, I think he might believe a new video will not add anything new for most of the fans.

The 2006 BBC TV concert is a great show, only problem is that at 1 hour it is only half the concert and missing some really good stuff too - Duncan, Train In Distance, Wartime Prayers, and a great new version of You´re The One (better than the original).

This full 2006 concert would be a very worthy release as there are quite a number of differences from YTO 2000 (which is a favourite for me as I was there).

Also very frustrating that the 1991 Concert in Central Park doesn´t get a DVD release. Such a great setlist and band. The perfect summary of his career to that point.

All of these are superior to the S & G concert in park of 1981 or Old Friends of 2003. I just don´t understand how "and Garfunkel" comands so much more attention and doubles ticket prices when in fact the performances are inferior because of it.

To me the star collaborators of Paul do not include Art, they are Mark Stewart, Vincent Nguini, Steve Gadd, and Ray Phiri before that. And I would much prefer a concert with Jessy Dixon and singers as supporting vocals.

>The perfect summary of his career to that point.

I beg to differ, If I remember correctly there are only five S&G songs on that album, hardly represantative of his career at that point. At that point Paul was riding high on the success of Graceland & Rhythm of the Saint and this live album is mostly a showcase of these albums.

>All of these are superior to the S & G concert in park of 1981 or Old Friends of 2003.

Out of the songs that are on both Central Park concert, I prefer the 1981 versions before the 1991 ones. But I think the 2003 versions are even better then the 1981 ones. Then the band was more tighter and more "rock´n´roll".

Hi Hakan

.."At that point Paul was riding high on the success of Graceland & Rhythm of the Saint and this live album is mostly a showcase of these albums..."

I agree with you on that point - and I think a better summary of his career is by far the YTO 2000 DVD/CD. It includes songs from nearly every album till that time (except Capeman)

But anyway, 1991 was the time of his highest solo success - Paul was really known worldwide. I do not have a clue why no one releases this video on DVD.

And Gerard is right, they should release the BBC 2006 show in complete on DVD.
But I think Pauls management (or his contracts?) are against it. I remember reading that the montreux jazz festival initiators wanted to release the 2002 concert on DVD (or air it on TV...not sure at the moment), and they did not get any rights to do that.

The only good thing is: We know these things exist, and some day they might get released.
