As I posted in another thread, I found this Old article that I assume most everyone here has seen. It is brief, but gives a few intimate details about Mary Wald´s trip with Paul and Harper to see the Dalai Lama.

http://www.marywald.com/?p=103

In it, she writes about how speechless she was at meeting the Dalai Lama. Of course, before then, she casually speaks of Paul and Harper, who I would be speechless at meeting! Then it struck me...

Would I be more interested in meeting Paul or the Dalai Lama? The Pope? The President?

So what I want to know from everyone is: Who are the top 5 people you´d like to meet (or re-meet)?

I´m still debating mine...

Hmmm... There´d be
Paul (I´d really Love to meet him)
Status Quo (Have met the members of the band several times but I always enjoy it again)
Elton John
Billy Joel
Cast members of Lord Of The Rings (especially Billy Boyd and Viggo Mortensen)

Definitely Paul! I have met the president (a giant thrill for me).I have met Mark Steward, Vincent Nguini(sp?), and Tony Cedras. They were very nice.

My brother loves Billy Joel and Elton John as much as I Love Paul S/Simon & Garfunkel. So those two would be the top of his list. Mine I would have to say (but not limited to) :

Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel
Bruce Springsteen
James Taylor
*Dennis Wilson
*Perry Como
*Billy Martin (Yankees Manager)
*Paul Newman
Robert Redford
Dustin Hoffman
Neil Sedaka

* passed away

More than 5, sorry. hehe. I can´t help myself.

That´s interesting Griffin-Why Dennis Wilson in particular. I guess you could say ´Why not´,but I think Brian,or Carl would be interesting. There seemed to be something so sad, tragic about Dennis,I agree,so forget the question:-). I guess apart from Paul,I´d put Donald Fagen on my list. Ulysses.S.Grant(dec),Neil Young...actually,I find these extremely difficult to finalise,so I´m stopping there. Oddly enough,a friend and I were talking just 3 days ago whilsj watching television when he out me the blue asked ´What fictional character would you most like to meet´. After telling him he might not be sleeping enough,I thought about it,and ended up choosing Marshall Matt Dillion from ´Gunsmoke´. A wonderful character. Sorry, maybe I could use some sleep myself...

Thanks Pelle!

Sometimes I think I´d like to meet specific people like Paul Simon, but then sometimes I think I´d like to meet general people like someone who loves PS/S&G that will understand my Outrageous (haha) Simon references that I place in everyday conversation. Not sure who all I´d like to meet.

Maybe I should feel guilty, but I really have very little desire to meet many political or religious figures...

Griffin - so I see you´ve got a deceased Yank on your list. Usually Yankees fans want to meet Yogi Berra (considering he played with some of the greatest players of all time and is known for his wit and personality) - just curious. I´m a major Cubs fan (not one of my most promising ideas, i know), and I would really enjoy meeting him.

My family and I are really good friends with The Beach Boys and have been for many many years. My mother actually dated Dennis Wilson and told me many fun stories about him and the band that you would´t find in any book (she said Dennis and I would have a fun time together; just a very nice guy to be around). I met Brian Wilson briefly, but you are right, I should add Carl Wilson to that list because I actually didn´t get to meet him (he passed away in 1998). Ulysses S. Grant is an intersting choice as well :)

Hahaha. I do want to meet Yogi and Joe Dimaggio and Mickey Mantle (my mother was babysat by the Mick and played ball with him). I´m a big Yankees fan, and wanted to put all the names on the list, but that would take up a lot of room. I just thought that all the Yankee players were "assumed" to be on the list. More so, Billy Martin was a character of his own (if anyone knew the kind of player/manager Billy was, they would get it). hehe

Post Scriptum: What a great conversation piece that would be if I met Paul Simon. Talkin´ to a forever-Yankee fan about the team.

Haha, even as a cubbies fan, Id still Love to meet any legendary ball players! I just love the game in general and definately respect those that made a difference, but to be honest I don´t know much about Billy Martin, so I´ll have to look him up. Those are all good choices. And a neat story about your mother! Just curious because I´m a big baseball fan, and I was jut wondering who others would pick... interesting stuff.

Griffin,if I´ve ever been envious...Just a week ago I watched The Beach Boys 1980 appearance at the Knebworth music festival in England on TV,and just loved it. I can´t remember if I put in my fan database entry that I´m also a huge Beach Boys fan,but if I didn´t,that would be a major omission. You could see on that film, just how much Dennis loved, and was proud of brother Brian. I´m assuming you´ve seen Paul´s fantastic reading of ´Surfer Girl´ from 2001. One of my favourite BB songs is ´Til I Die´ from the ´Surf´s Up´ album. There is SO much more to them than ´California Girls´,as wonderful as that song is.
