Searching for info about Old band members of Paul isn´t that much fun. Did you all know that Eric Gale and ´Briz´ already died about more than 10 years ago?
I was not aware of that...

No I wasn´t ..... we knew about Richard Tee... Michael Brecker´s not well and I believe in the past neither was Tony Levin (One Trick Pony).

Hm, I have seen Tony Levin on the video of the last tour with Peter Gabriel (last year?), he looked the same like in 1980. Do you know what he had? If it was also cancer then this would be very strange.

Eric was 55 years Old, died on lung cancer, and Briz only 38!

There are sad stories, of course.

But Toots Thielemans is not only alive, but still touring, this is great.

Personally I mostly regret the death of Richard Tee, because he was so funny and as important for Paul Simon as Steve Gadd.

I am sure Paul misses Richard Tee, as well. They seemed to have a special bond.

I have read an interview somewhere where Steve Gadd was asked about the musician who he most admire in Pauls band, and the answer was Richard Tee. But these 2 guys have been very close friends - even bevore they knew Paul Simon, and Richard also played in Gadds band ´The Gaddgang´ You find many pictures of Steve and Richard on Richards website.

Richard Tee, Steve Gadd and Eric Gale were members of the band "Stuff", playing before Simon met them.

Headman Shabalala,(Josephs brother),shot by security guards in 1991,can be added to the sad roll call.

Right Bing, when I was posting this I thought about that scene too...the death musicians game. But it was more funny in the movie than in reality.

Finding information about Briz was very hard, I first only found 1 posting on googlegroups about his death, and I thought it is a joke - you know why? Someone posted he died in 1995, but he is listed as a singer on the Capeman album which has been released in 1997... So I thought maybe someone made a bad joke.

But the Capeman project lasted six/seven years so is it possible that Briz could have recorded his vocals before 1995?

Yes right Matthew, that was the answer.
I do not know much about the time scedule, but I believe most of these songs have already been recorded before 1995. So Simon wrote about 35 songs in that time (after ROTS), I think he never wrote more songs in such a short period after the S&G times.
