can someone help settle an argument. i remember watching the "Graceland" episode of Classic Albums, and on it there was a discussion about the bass playing on You Can Call Me Al. I distinctly remember it being played by someone other than Paul Simon. I did some digging online and found the name of a bassplayer called Bakithi Kumalo...which would support my theory.

My stubborn friend maintains that Paul Simon played bass on that track. He even reckons that it says this on the liner notes!

So who´s right? If someone could scan the relevant part of the liner notes I´d be eternally grateful.

Bakithi Played it, and also composed it (on his birthday)
The only thing Paul did was that he played it backward on the tape (maybe to have his own input).

You´r friend maybe thinks so because Paul is playing all the instruments in the video clip - but if you look exactly on his fingers you will see that he doesn´t have an idea what to do with his fingers ;-)

No Chevy wrote all the songs, and Artie sung them.
Paul was in the videos because he looks so funny.
