Does anyone have an explanation or interpretation of the last verse of "That´s Where I Belong." I´m referring to the " A spiny little island man..." This is such a beautiful Love song and such an odd ending (I think). Any thoughts??

hi Baylee!
Maybe Paul is talking about himself or a man who loves that girl.

I wonder if Paul played banjo instead of the guitar on a photo on the main page everything would be clear..

Yeah the song is beautiful - i like when he sings (i mean ´aaaaaaaay´):
The way you turn and catch me with your eye - ay ay
..
That´s the way it is, I dont know why - ay ay
..
To a river where the water meets the sky - ay ay

Hi

Maybe Paul refers to the end of "I´m a rock"

I think "Fat Charlie the Archangel" (from Crazy Love Vol.2)is a much more interesting and mysterious character than the Island Man. :)

Baylee, maybe Alain B means the words from ´I´m a rock´:

and the rock feels no pain
and an ISLAND never crys

The singer is at his most happiest in the environment of song.

Songs that are in the storytelling tradition,("every ending, a beginning...)

Whether they originate in the urban sophistacation of New York, or on some tropical Island idyll, where the "spiny" Islanders play calypso, and where "the water meets the sky". (memories of St.Lucia with D.Walcott?).

They are the same type of songs, but from different places.

Hi SimonD!! :)
1. Can you explain this storytelling tradition?? I don´t understand the grammar of this phrase ("every ending, a beginning...) Maybe i read not many tales in English. Or is it a kind of idiom.. I wonder ..

2. Remember the film about Capeman - they Simon and Walcott were writing the musical on the island at Walcott´s village or smth. Maybe this is the clue ?? ..
