Hey-- I just read that Paul apparently wrote and sang the song "Ten Years" as the Oprah theme song for one season in the mid to late 1990s. Does anyone know where I can find the song? I read that it was recorded while he was making Rythem of the Saints, but for some reason it was left off the album and off the reissue from a few years ago.

you can listen to an exerpt here:

Name of the CD is "Carnival", edited by Sting for his rainforest activities. The full song is on it.

It´s the first time I hear it was recorded for ROTS. - "Thelma" was recorded for ROTS. Ten years has absolutely nothing to do with the south american percussions, so I really doubt that.

Yes, in fact it was for the ten years anniversary of Oprah Winfrey`s show and this was years after ROTS.

Thelma was the possible 11th song for ROTS, but probably not with the final lyrics which strongly refer to his new Love Edie and their first child.

The song is also on a Paul Simon bootleg called `All rare songs`. You can find tracks like `The Blues` (with Randy Newman), `In Cars` (with Art Garfunkel) and `Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain` (with Edie).

I still need to be convinced that the song "Ten Years", did not have its origin in the ROTS project.

Was it really written from scratch for the OW show?

What do you want, a certificate?

Does Ten Years sound like any other ROTS song?

but then there is Thelma, which does sound like a ROTS song yet the subject matter did not occur til two years after the album was released

I think that Thelma is by far not as good as the rest of the ROTS songs.
There was a long discussion if this song should be on the album or not, and I think in the end also Paul saw that Thelma does not fit very good to the rest of the songs.

Anyway - it is interesting that in the end exactly these songs get so much attention - There is a video clip for Thelma now...
