Paul Simon changes label (again)

Paul Simon has announced that he is moving his entire solo catalogue from Warner Bros back to Sony/Legacy. This will come as a surprise for Simon´s fans as he left Columbia/CBS in the late 1970s after disagreements with Columbia bosses over the release of the single Stranded in a Limousine which Simon accused the label of failing to promote.

Simon then signed to Warner Bros who released and promoted his next project, the One-Trick Pony film and supporting soundtrack album. Since then, all Paul Simon´s albums have been released on Warner Bros, including the massively successful Graceland and the most recent 2006 album Surprise, along with an alarming plethora of greatest hits compilations.

Since the move to Warner Bros, Simon gained control of the masters to his earlier solo recordings and in 1987, his first four solo albums, including the live album Live Rhymin´, were re-released on Warner Bros CDs, cassettes and vinyl. In 2004 a remastered deluxe version of all 9 solo albums were released on Warner´s Rhino label, including bonus material, out-takes and missing tracks.

It seems likely that the new album that Simon is reportedly finishing will be released on Sony records but whether all ten solo albums between 1972 and 2006 (not to mention one live album and all eight compilations released between 1988 and 2007) will also be re-released remains to be seen.
