By Patrick Peterson Florida Today BILOXI - Paul Simon, the Grammy-winning singer/writer, toured storm damage today and found ´opportunity in tragedy,´ as an organization he co-founded brought the first of two mobile clinics to the Coast. ´There is a moment when we understand we are one,´ said Simon, who met with Biloxi´s mayor, A.J. Holloway. ´It gradually goes away.´ Simon will appear on NBC´s Today show on Tuesday from Biloxi, he will be among performers on a national telethon on Friday to raise money for hurricane victims. Simon and Dr. Irwin Redlener toured the devastated city and visited Coastal Family Health Center, located in a poor area of Biloxi that was extremely hard-hit. The pair co-founded a children´s health and advocacy organization, The Children´s Health Fund. The organization is bringing two 35-foot mobile clinics to the Coast to help with recovery. The first arrived in Biloxi today. The organization plans to move into New Orleans, when it´s possible, and plans to help rebuild permanent health-care facilities in both storm-ravaged areas.
