``AFI´s 100 Years -- 100 Songs,´´ 8 tonight, Ch. 5, 46.
Actor John Travolta will host a salute and countdown of the hundred greatest songs in American movies as compiled by the American Film Institute.
The songs were selected from a ballot of 400 songs submitted to 1,500 leaders in the film and entertainment industry. Among the criteria for songs to be included in the list were their ability to capture the nation´s heart, echo beyond the walls of a movie theater, and, ultimately, stand in the collective memory for the film itself.
Among the performers interviewed will be Clay Aiken, Isaac Hayes, Paul Simon, Debbie Allen, Julie Andrews, Bette Midler, Burt Bacharach, Brian McKnight and Celine Dion.
