 | Hey guys,
I saw a question on the quiz about Paul Simon working with Michael Jackson and I´ll be honest I didn´t know the answer. I never thought he had worked with him but then I got the question wrong!!!
It got me thinking of all the amazing people he´s worked with over the years. I want to try and find some stuff of his with other top artists and therefore thought you guys could help by listing some collaborations you know about??? (and if any are available anywhere) |

 | That´s very funny... For first time I also thought they couldn´t collaborate ever... But then I realized, that they did something together...
Do you know what?
We Are The World!!! |

 | Paul sung on We are the world, thats the collaboration with MJ
But he rarely does real collaborations with big stars, most of the time he invites some musicians or bands to play on one of his songs. Compared to Sting he is a Nobody in this collaborations thing... |

 | Can´t believe I didn´t realise it was WE Are The World...I even have the Live Aid DVD where they are both singing on it...how stupid of me!!!
But I´m still intrigued to find out who he has performed with. I kno there´s obviously Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, James Taylor etc... Although apart from Taylor I´m not sure I know exactly what they´ve sung together on???
I have a version of Here Comes The Sun & Homeward Bound with him and George Harrison. I mean things like that, anything where he´s performing with another great!!
Even if he´s invited them to play with him, I´m interested to kno about them?? (Anything from the extreme rare one off TV performances to the Everly Brothers with S&G on the 2004 Tour!!)
There should be a list somewhere for idiots like me ;-)

 | "We are the world" was a meeting of some dozens of stars.
I think the list of collaborations would be as interesting as the songs used for movies.
One trend: as Bodo stated, he was not prepared to share his fame with stars similar famous as he was until the late 80`s.
He was supposed to do "Gone at last" with Bette Middler. In the end he did it with Phoebe Snow, and there are different versions why!
It also is a difference whether it was on record (= forever) or in a concert or TV-show. In the seventies, one could not expect TV-shows available for everybody years later. |

 | He also worked with Randy Newman, Neil Young, Carl Perkins, John Mayer, Miriam Makeba, John Mellancamp. I downloaded some some stuff with Paul McCartney, but am not sure if PS is really on it. |

 | What kind of stuff with Paul Mc Cartney?
They did only 1 song live together.
But I wouldn´t count this as a collaboration, cause it is not available to the market. Also the collaborations with John Mayer are not available.
I would say a collaboration is when 2 musicians come together and write a new song... and at the moment I can´t think of any songs where Paul did so. Maybe the Carl Perkins songs (but Pauls contribution on these songs again is very small, at least smaller than Carl Perkins one) |

 | I think this subject is more difficult.
In the seventies there where Al Kooper with 59.th Bridge, Phoebe Snow and James Taylor (but only as support for Garfunkel`s album Watermark).
But don`t you think Stephane Grappelli and Toots Thielemans were stars? Or Patty Austin, singing on Long long day?
Or the Dixie Hummingbirds and the Jessy Dixon Singers?
Or Claude Jeter?
Or Urubamba, former Los Incas? |

 | Lol, you raise some good points. I guess you´re right, they are all stars, just to be singing with Paul Simon!!!!!
What is the one song that Paul sang with Paul McCartney??? |

 | I´ve just seen a face
They played it together at the adopt a minefield benefit concert, and as a Surprise act at one of Pauls solo shows the day before.
I have to admit, that Paul Mc Cartneys voice hasn´t really changed in all these years, especially when you compare it to Paul Simons voice. |

 | Thats a good idea Klausi.
I´ll install a list of collaborations on the site too..
It´s nearly the same as the list of movies - I mean technical :-) |

 | Thank you Bodo. I feel the same, regardless of the "fame" of the musicians.
The deficit begins with the fact that there were almost no informations about who played instruments on S&G`s records on the record sleeves.
Also: Who knows about the Roches (two of them sang on Was A Sunny Day) or Stefan Grossman or about the fact, that Whitney Houstons mother sang background on Mother And Child Reunion?
In our days of google everybody who is really interested can find out something.
I recently found out that Toots Thielemans (82) is still giving concerts and liked it, a very sympathetic guy.

 | I downloaded some stuff that had PS and PM in the filename, but I doubt it very much if it is true.
These are the titles: Let me roll it, Three legs, and Driving rain and Lovely Linda. You only hear PM and one guitar. The tag says it´s from ´together on stage´. And then there is SOS rehearsal from Live at the Greek Theatre 2001. Here you only hear PS singing.
By the way I like Linda Ronstadt on one of the songs on Graceland. Can´t remember at this moment what song it is. I wouldn´t mind to hear more of them together. |
