 | Paul really thought that ?
It remains his biggest solo hit. Highly unlikely to be repeated. |

 | Hi Simon - If I am not completely wrong, then Paul just said that in the last ´Uncut´ interview. |

 | Hi Bodo- Not seen that interview yet, but even if I had I would maintain Paul must have known something intuitively.
If he thought it had no hit potential, makes you wonder why he gave his blessing for it to be released as a single in the first place.
Would this article really be the first time Paul has said someting , when deep down he knows the opposite to be true?
Stay tuned for more "revision" statements in the ensuing months.

 | Simon, I guess that what Paul meant was that he would not have expected it to be more of a hit than any of the other singles he released... |

 | Maybe yes, but maybe he just meant the song would not become Nr 1, so just Nr 2 in the charts...
Whatever, here is the statement:
The question was about not having a hit (OTP, Hearst and Bones)
"...I would not describe not having a hits as a shock tot he system. Thats a too strong phrase. Because I was surprised at a lot of the hits I´d had and didnt know what made them hits. I would NEVER have guessed that 50 ways would be no 1."
I personaly think that Paul just loved that song, loved that he wrote the lyrics for his son, and really liked what Steve Gadd made on the drums, so he thought it is a good song to be released. On the other hand he maybe thought that this song is very simple, and really has not the kind of lyrics you would expect from a songwriter who wrote Bridge Over Troubled Water. So I understand why he might have thought this song is not a No 1 song.
I am sure he would also be surprised if Getting ready for Christmas or The Afterlife would have/will become No 1. (as we all I guess ;) ) |
