 | When I talked to Paul at the Capeman cast party, I asked him if the 1991 concert was ever coming out on DVD. He looked puxxled and said he thought it already was. I wonder if that was because he knew it was coming out - just didn´t know when. |

 | Wow. I missed this thread and just wrote my opinion of the song on another thread. I was unable to buy it yesterday, but with a big thanks to Brenda I listened to it finally once last night,on my mobile phone using the tinny speaker on the phone, not headphones, which made it sound very thin and harsh. This morning I plugged my phone into my tv and listened through my sound system and I was very impressed. I think the melody is good for a simple song. I have a feeling though that despite what has been written, that this may not be on the new album-just a gut feeling. While I like this song,I agree it is probably a lesser song of the new batch, but if it is a lesser song, than the new album is going to be GREAT! |

 | Humm...I doubt Ian that is among the lesser.
Why it would be so ? No, I rather start with the idea that this is part of the best of the new album.
I mean...you end up tapping your feet on the floor or humming the chorus...how could it be the lesser ?
But do you feel that it is a song that could feel at its place on ´Surprise´ ? I kind of feel that way, which feel awkward because I am sure Simon made every effort to make SBOSW sound different than his previous efforts.
Stay tuned... |

 | Yeah,´lesser´ was an unfortunate word to use and don´t get me wrong- I really LIKE it. I was just trying to see the side of others that aren´t as impressed. I still have a feeling that this´ll be another Thelma and not included on the album. Having said that,Paul did release Father And Daughter on Surprise,so who knows? PS: If it is on the album,I think a slight remix to lower the Rev´s talking part a little. At times it seems a tad overpowering, but for the final time-I like this song,a lot,and repeated listenings only reinforce my opinion. |

 | On Paul´s official site it says the new christmas song will be on the forthcoming album.
Paul using the sample from Rev. J.M. Gates reminds me of the song 7 O´Clock News/Silent Night from S&G with the newsreader at the background.

 | nice to see you back as Ans.
Like Mog I really like the new song for its catchiness. I also liked Outrageous, Allergies and Cars Are Cars for the same reason. I think its because I´m tone deaf!! They would never have the same deepness as other songs, but if you´re trying to introduce people to Paul Simon, these are ones you could start with. |

 | I like the song but it have not a chance to take place on Surprise, a album i give 5 out of 5, and this new tune a 4 so it could not be the best album in 20 years my opion. |

 | My expectation is: I guess I would prefer a live version of that song. The guitar part in the beginning is very good.
Without all those synth sounds, studio tricks of fading out guitars and with Steve Gadd adding a acceptable drum part :)
This thing reminds me a little bit too much on Queens 1980s album ´Play the game´. In that time this band used a synthesizer for the first time, and like a child which got a new game, they tried to use all strange sounds this thing could produce. The song is overloaded with (to my ears) uncharming noises, frreeeps, and schllllssmmsmsms and the Old song.
I guess if Paul would play it alone with his guitar, I would like it. |

 | Surprise stayed in my car cd player for 2 years in a row :)
Well, a Christmas song is not a song to play all year round. I still have high hopes for the new album :)
The song can also be heard here and it´s a nice article to read. I agree with the thought about Bob Dylan, we bought his Christmas album last year and it was funny, we loved it. It´s great that songwriters like Paul and Bob can connect with the modern day bands, Paul more than Bob IMO ;-)

 | (album name was The GAME, and the first singe was PLAY THE GAME), in that time it was maybe cool, today it sounds like only people from that aera could have liked it. Paul doin that - now: 30 yeras later - is a little bit strange for me. |

 | I have the same problem with that song than you Bodo : the general line is ok and Paul´s voice is still excellent but it seems to me that the back is so "noisy" and with useless notes (please, turn that synthesizer off !!) !
And a Christmas song ? Pfff...
Paul, please, suprise me more : I know you can do it !!! |

 | I really don´t like this Chritsmas song , no melodie, too repetitive guitar pattern....
I can´t recognize Paul S in that. I´m not sayin that I don´t want paul to suprise me. I did not expect "Surprise" sound but I like it and I can see Paul in that.
excuse me if my english´s too bad ;) |

 | I agree with Nath. I don´t care for all the background noise and the talking. The talking also seems to go on for too long.
Trying to put a positive spin on this, I am glad that Paul can still write a catchy tune. And his voice is still fantastic. If you compare this to another light weight catchy song, say, It Was A Sunny Day, it does not sound to me that one is a quarter of a century earlier than the other. Not many singers can sound so consistent for so long. |

 | Ooops. 1974 to 2010 is more than a quarter century. Over a third of a century. (Math is not my forte!) |
