Paul never figured out how to play Graceland live until a number of years went by. The version on YTO Paris is a different universe than Concert In The Park. I think it has to do with finding the groove, and speeding it up a little. A different pace worked in the studio, but the band needs to rock that song a bit. Love Mark Stewart´s playing.

I think it worked before ´99 too. There is a different sound, feeling and groove to the song in CP and of course different players. The version on YTO is masterful and there is a whole different feeling, it kind of matured. Mark Stewart´s playing is great, I loved what he did as a musical director with the song at the Gerswhin Prize Award and of course Alison Krauss and Jerry Douglas.

At Dime is the Farm Aid show from 1992 where Paul played 3 songs, one of them is Graceland with Willie Nelson, Willie did a lot of the singing, mentioning the girl from Austin Texas for the first time :) Paul led the band (not his band) and Willie to a solid ending of the song. The version they played together at the Big Six O was more practiced and better.

Oh well...I think the years 1999-2002 are the best live years on stage for almost any songs.

Hmm, that´s interesting Mog, why do you think that? Because of the band or the arrangements of the songs?

The Argentina flag, are you on vacation there Mog? Have A Good Time!

I agree that ´99-´02 was a great live era

Sure, but I also think that the 1984 concerts without a band were outstanding. As guitarist he mostly is underrated.
