Well, this is just a brief collection of thoughts after seeing Paul and Art do their thing last night at in Brisbane. Look,I´m a fan and because of that,am always willing to forgive any shortcomings, but I´ve got to say-THERE WERE NO SHORTCOMINGS! The concert was AWESOME! To start off, they were in a good mood, especially Paul who just beamed at every opportunity. They were also in fine voice-once again especially Paul, whose voice was very powerful. Several times my sister nudged me and yelled ´Paul is such a good singer´. He was wonderful! Paul´s mid concert solo set was truly an inspired mini concert all by itself. He´s so funky-´The Boy In The Bubble´ had such an exciting & propulsive arrangement, turning the verses minor key menace up to a 10 on the goosebump scale! The best arrangement of this song ever! ´Diamonds´ was equally re-invigorated- so very good. Paul Simon is undoubtedly THE MAN! He confirmed, yet again to me,why I Love him and his music. Thank you Paul and Art. It was worth every cent and more.....

PS. My sister filmed some complete songs from last nights show and hopes to upload th videos on Youtube. I´ll let you know when they are up. I just want to add a few more thoughts about last night to my earlier brief report. The arrangements were,or are, essentially the same as heard on the ´Old Friends,Live on Stage´ DVD/CD,but as they are superior versions, why change them? The band on this tour, are a fine and talented collection of players, but special mention must be given to Bakithi Kumalo,Charley Drayton, and particularly Mark Stewart whose dazzling proficiency on a wide selection of instruments, was nothing short of exhausting to watch,as he swapped instruments mid song,on many occasions. When I feel a little better,I will write a more complete review of the show,if anyone is interested.

Sorry Jon,no there were no surprises or different songs thrown in last night. The setlist was exactly the same as Auckland. The show was a very respectable 2 plus hour with no intermission or support act.

That´s awesome Ian! Thanks so much for posting and I´m so glad you were well enough to go. It sounds like a concert you would never want to miss :) Great to hear that Paul was in a good mood too, I really do think that when he´s in a good mood and actually smiles on stage it makes a world of difference. Hope you have an equally wonderful time tonight.

PS Was The Boy In The Bubble arrangement different to the one at the 2008 shows Ian?

Ian,

my first attempt to post this message never appeared, so I´m trying again.

Did your sister take any footage of the solo sets? I´m desperately keen to get some audio of The Boy In The Bubble, which I thought was outstanding.

Not my all time personal favourite but if asked if only one solo song could be included I would have picked BOY IN THE BUBBLE.

IMO the best performance of the concert too.

Paul Simon´s Brisbane monologue after Art tells the oft-told tale of their first meeting,as characters in ´Alice in Wonderland´. Paul says ´Ah,yes I was the white rabbit, and I´ll tell you more about that in a second, but I wanted to just tell you..ah,this ah..feeling(inaudible)..the pleasure of the reunion,ah,not just with Artie, but with all the people from our generation that first listened..(audience applause drowns his words, but he continues)..and their children!´(even BIGGER applause). ´It´s a pleasure and a comfort for us,and in fact,I think to myself-if someone had said to me when I was 11 years Old,that one day you will sing songs with your best friend, and you´ll make records that will be popular all over the world, and that half a century from now,you will be standing in front of thousands of people in Brisbane...Australia!,I would have said..´SO?´(laughter and applause) ´I´m eleven y´lnow?´...´How does the white rabbit link into that one?´(more laughter)---It was funnier than it reads, believe me:-)

Gerard, Boy in the Bubble IS my all time favourite (followed closely by The Boxer, Train In The Distance, The Obvious Child & Cool, Cool River) and I think it would stand out so much from the S&G stuff. I imagine that as the accordion starts up that it´s the most exciting part of the night! I Love the song, the lyrics, the sentiment and the way the whole band plays such a huge part in it.
