Thanks for posting this utube link.

This takes me back to 16 years Old and the Paul Simon that I became a fan of. What a great performance with Jessie Dixon & group.

I think this Sound of Silence version was even released as a 45 single back in 1974?

I remember reading(and still have) concert reviews from 1974 - 1976 from UK music mags that raved about these concerts and I felt very jealous living a world away.

I have been lucky to have now attended 20 concerts (1983 to 2008), but I really would have loved to have experienced one of these from the Paul Simon & Jessy Dixon group period.

This is a very good taste, as are the other BBC TV concert clips from 2 years later.

The other TV clip I remember from back then was a performance of Still Crazy (the first I can remember, probably 1975). It was just him sitting on a stool and wearing the same suit as the cover of the LP. I wonder if that clip will ever surface?

Hi Gerard, the clip you are talking about with Paul performing while sitting on a stool-might that be the SNL clip from 1975. I have that one. I believe it´s on Youtube as well. That´s if we´re talking about the same clip.

The album Live Rhhymin´, which came out of this tour, is a good example of how a good sound is made.

Still today much better than 1981 CP or 1991 CP.

I just saw that an audience-recording of that tour is available on Dime. Quality is quite good (given the fact that it´s an audience recording from the seventies). Nice to hear the songs that are missing on the official release.

If I´m not mistaken, this video, along with the Live Rhymin´ CD, was filmed/recorded at the Joyce Center on the campus of the University of Notre Dame

Back in the early 80´s I remember reading an English magazine which reviewed and listed all available music related home video releases. Along with CP81 and the 1980 Philadelphia concert videos, they also listed a 1974 concert video. This was 1983 and it was an extremely expensive proposition to buy these items. This was long before you could by VHS tapes at the supermarket for example. I had to pay 50 Australian dollars just to have the local video rental establishment get me a copy of CP81 to HIRE for just TWO days. I of course illegally dubbed it while I had it,but the other two videos were as rare as hen´s teeth and weren´t even listed as available in Australia at that time. Anyway, this 1974 Clip probably comes from the longform tape I mentioned. I´d Love to see it in it´s entirety. Jon,if my memory serves me correct, that was where it said the concert was filmed.

Thanks for the info Ian! I remember seeing a reference to a 1974(ish) video on Jose & Jose´s site (the dreamer of music) so I always did wonder if it was ever in circulation...

Whilst H&B is my favourite album, Live Rhymin´ has my favourite EVER track on it, Duncan, with Urubamba... Amazing...

I´ve just remembered. The VHS concert was Paul Simon recorded at Avery Fisher Hall in 1974.

Am I the only one who doesn´t like this performance of SOS? The song was written as an acoustic peace and should always be played like that. I like Paul Simon and I like and respect his solo work but in the case of SOS, I think he should at least play it acoustically. I even think that Garfunkel really enhanced this song with his voice. Anyway, I don´t like the yowling of the Dixie Singers on that one. It doesn´t suit the undertone of the song. For other songs they are perfect however.

Hi Ian, are you sure if there is an official 1974 concert video? I never saw it listed anywhere. The information on thedreamerofmusic says it´s a live promo video aired to promote the Live Rhymin´ Album. It was shot on the 1973 Tour which would make sense because the album cover of Live Rhymin´ has the same picture on the cover and was released in April 1974.

For me the best version of SOS is with 2 electric guitars at CP91. But I like this version with Jesse Dixon also very much, Paul taking turns with Jesse on the verses and I like the singing of the Jesse Dixon Singers.
I will probably be the only one...;-) but the same goes for BOTW, I prefer the gospel version over the original one.

You´re not the only one Ans ;)

The 1991 SOS Version is the best one for me too, as also the Bridge version from that tour. Although I agree that Art Garfunkels original version is also great...I mean the 1969 version, not today ;)

SOS ? I really like the electric Bob/Paul 1999 version, provided that you erase Dylan´s voice.

And I Love the intro to the song Paul prepared for the Old Friends Tour in 2003. Very nice.
