 | think Paul Simon can be boring? its more of the samo samo - but then I´m not a U2 fan and have not taken the time to listen to the subtly of their lyrics and the rhythm of their melodies.
I get a bit fed up with them Bono esp preaching at us to be good citizens of the planet yet he puts his business in Holland for tax purposes
Anyway there´s my rant of the month

 | Did he ever have a good explanation for doin that?
I just wonder, I have seen that in a TV documentation about tax havens. And Bono did not give an interview or answer any questions. |

 | Ha, I was just a click away to order the new U2 CD too, when i saw it for 7,90 ... (but I only wanted the Cohen DVD)
Anyway, I realized that U2 are U2 - I can not hear if this album has been released in 1984, 1992 or 2009... always the same. Isn´t it? I mean, yes, they sound good, and I like their songs. But it doesn´t matter if I still listen to "Achtung Baby" or this new CD. :-) |

 | My sentiment too I´m afraid, regarding U2. Hey Scaaty,do you know an Old Irish war ballad called The Minstrel Boy. It´s such a lovely song and I´ve made my own solo guitar arrangement of it,but do you know of any definitive vocal versions of it? Oh,and another one called Mother McCrea (that may be spelt wrong)? Thanking you in advance. |

 | The minstrel boy was written as a poem by Thomas Moore in the 1700?s. he wrote other famous songs such as ?the last rose of summer? ?the meeting of The Waters?. As a song it would be considered more of an operatic song than a ballad. Frank Patterson or John Mc Cormack (famous Irish Tenors) would have both sang it. Amongst the living and maybe a ballady version I think Sinead O Connor might have had a go.
Mother McCrea according to my dearly beloved is something similar and sung by the late late John McCormack- I think it may be from the States side as a Oiroish song - like "when Irish eyes are smiling"
For decent Irish ballads, I suggest you try Christy Moore, my second favourite singer to Paul, the Dubliners and the Furey Brothers. Enjoy!

 | Thanks Scaaty,I actually watched Christy Moore concert on tv years ago and enjoyed it immensely. I wish I had taped it. It was filmed here in Australia for ABC television. The melody to the Minstrel Boy is used in a couple of movies I´ve seen and on both occasions it was to do with British Redcoats(that most unfairly maligned historical character). Thanks again for the info and suggestions. |
