 | It was a great show, so I don´t want you to get the wrong impression.
I come away from it terribly dissapointed. Where was Cecilia? Simon and Garfunkel´s most loved song, the one the fans at the Concert in Central Park were waiting for, chanting for....Where was it? They played it at the show, why was not it in the TV broadcast. Someone said Artie had mic trouble in the first verse --- that can´t be PBS´ excuse, as they included Steve Wonder´s flubbing of Loves Me Like A Rock and James Taylor´s "Mad Dog F***ing Crazy" line. The Boxer was said to have feedback issues, yet it was broadcast.
All night I was waiting for it and it never came. Tomorrow I shall call PBS New York and ask that they at least put it on the internet. I mean honestly, this could be the last time they perform together.
This was a great show, and had PBS (or Paul, I´m not sure whos decision it was) included Cecilia I would have loved it. There were some awsome renditions. Please don´t get the wrong idea, as i am very thankful it was on. I just wanted to hear Paul and LBM to Diamonds, Paul do LMLAR and Father, and Paul and Artie do Cecilia and Bridge (They did do Bridge, BTW). As much as I like James Taylor and Stevie Wonder, I really didn´t watch it to see them.
I´ll give a more positive and extensive review sometime tomorrow. |

 | Why do you make so much fuss just because they have left out 1 song??
The new version of Cecilia Paul and Art did on the last tour was the only song I really disliked. bumm bumm bumm bumm..it had absolute no groove for me, was sung emotionless (Cecilia 1991 Central Park - yes, thats a good one)

 | I absolutely loved every minute of the show....
I made a list of the 27 songs/speeches/film clips...Some of the more memorable...of course the ones Paul performed "Me and Julio"...with Stevie Wonder...to start the show....and at the end "Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes" with ´my brothers from South Africa´....BOTW with Artie ´my dear friend and partner in argument´...."Father and Daughter" with Harper on guitar and singing backup (nice touch).....and the lively rendition of "Loves Me Like A Rock" with Paul , Dixie Hummingbirds, and Stevie Wonder whom he said he performed the song with before.......
I missed Paul singing "Sound of Silence"...fav song of all time but there was a piano rendition at the end...So many things I liked about this almost 90 minute concert....
I haven´t checked out the website... go to pbs.org
I absolutely loved Allison Kraus´ rendition of "Graceland"......
As Bob Costas said, Paul´s songs cover 40 years...from SOS in 1966 to Wartime Prayers in 2006...classic and contemporary...scope/depth..
I liked that he had so many of the folks on there with him who have been a part of his vast career.....and his band members...and Jerry Douglas who was with him on the Surprise tour....

 | Diamonds was prob. my favorite --- It was great seeing Paul with LBM and it was great that they went back to the more traditional version. |

 | Me too, with all due respect, I don´t the understand the fuss about "Cecilia".
Yeah, the show was quite nice. Simon, sober in his comments, as usual.
Some of the performances were kind of déjà vu ("Loves Me Like A Rock" with the Dixie Hummingbirds and Stevie Wonder).
I really enjoyed Alison Krauss with Graceland (5 stars...wow !!), really liked The Boxer with Douglas and Krauss as well.
Gone at Last and Late In The Evening were great. I wish his new songs could have that force, energy and groove.
Poor Artie...I dunno if my judgement is altered, but I really enjoy Simon´s vocal on Bridge, strong with nuances, compared to Art. In link to that: vive Aretha Franklin !
James Taylor : yawn...
I am in agreement that the 5-decades thing would have more power if there would be more songs post-Graceland.
By the way, does Rhythm Of The Saints has fallen in desuétude ? |

 | I was pretty disapointed with The Boxer and Graceland. I guess I´m the only one who could have completely done without Alison Krauss. I thought she butchered both songs. I think all the smokeing has finally got to Art´s voice, but it was nice to see him. I taped the show and overall I enjoyed it. I could have used the whole Aretha Franklin version of BOTW. |

 | I taped the show and should be able to upload it here in a few weeks.
One of the major things I liked was the video clips they showed between some songs. I had seen most of them before but it was great to know that the general public could see them. I loved Stievie wonder´s stuff at the show esp. "I forgot my que cards." That was great. Jerry Douglas is amazing. I esp. liked his stuff on "Graceland" I also liked the piano on almost every song. SOS was great except that PBS cut right into the middle with their "support for this program...." I was very glad that "Gone At Last" was performed because it is one of my favorite songs. LBM on "Homeless" was great to see. Diamonds was amazing as ususal with LBM doing their dance and doing the Trad. version. BOTW was pretty good but all that smoking has really gotten to Artie´s voice. He sounded better than I´ve heard in the recent past, however. It was also great to see that the band was up there on every song. I liked watching Mark Stewart. I´ve actually never seen him play a Mandolin before.
Well, overall a great concert. I should have it ready in a few weeks.
Cheers
