 | I will be there tonight also! I´m driving with a friend all the way from Arcata, CA, which is a 6 hour drive. Anyone know if there is an opener? We might be a little late. |

 | Just got back from the Berkeley Greek, what did you think?
´Neath the halo of a heat lamp´:-)
(there were heat lamps on the Berkeley stage)
Gotta Love Paul, but the band and sound seemed uneven. Although it´s hard to compete with all the great folks he´s played with over the years in so many different styles. They did really come together on a couple of tunes, like Call Me Al and One Trick.
He really did warm up the crowd, which seemed so stayed at first. I don´t think I´ve ever seen such a low-key group, but this was my first PS concert. Interesting combination of rocking out, cabaret (Still Crazy was awesome) and hootenany.
He was best with less, I think. I´d love to see him on his own or with a small combo in a cabaret atmosphere.
Very tasteful and well-modulated play list, I thought. Crowd-pleasing and a good representation of his awesome body of work. And, yes, 3 curtain calls! The boy likes to play! |

 | We thoroughly enjoyed the show at the Greek tonight. I personally liked the band and I thought that the blend between band stuff and solo stuff was a great mix. Band highlights incl short/sweet double drummer solo (Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes) and sax solo (Still Crazy). Steve Gadd on drums - can´t go wrong with that. Bass player nailing that "You Can Call Me Al" quick riff not once but twice. And who wouldn´t want to see Paul Simon play solo or with a small combo in a cabaret atmostphere? For outdoor sound, thought they did a great job with the blend and volume too, overall. Glad we went - hadn´t seen Paul live in about 20 years and he can still hit the high notes and play his guitar. BTW, Jerry Douglas was a giant of a warm-up act too - great duet, Paul & Jerry on "The Boxer." |
