 | I have heard Simon speak of injuring his hand in the 70s.How did this injury occur.I do know it left a calcium deposit on his finger and prevented him playing the guitar as well as he has in the past.He said Lennon and Yoko Ono met him in the street in New York and told him of a diet that would help ....and it did.Any more info on the hand injury?? |

 | It was around 1973/1974. Simon tried to play the guitar left-handed then, because he plays baseball left-handed. But that was so unusual, he couldn`t approach.
He said he never fully regained his skills, but also due to the fact, that he is surrounded more and more with extraordinary good guitarists like Eric Gale, Ray Phiri, Vincent N`guini, etc. And his "newly discovered" Mark Stewart also seems great.
But when you hear him in concert, he is always able to deliver what is requested! Finetuned fingerpicking with the ability of sudden changes in tempo is his strength, and this is more difficult than expected.
When he was interviewed in a radio show a couple of years ago he stated, after "Peace Like A River" was played, that he should relearn to play so powerful and loud. |

 | I just read that his hand is better now, but I don´t know if it´s at full health. I think I remember reading that for awhile, he was working on switching to the piano as his primary instrument -- which may sort of explain the "Still Crazy..." album. |

 | I vaguely recall reading it was a result of a squash injury....could be wrong though. I also read somewhere that he had recently had surgery on his hand for carpel tunnel problems. |

 | Yes, he had surgery for carpel tunnel. It´s a typical thing associated with repetitive strain such as playing the guitar in this case. |

 | In addition to the above:
- if I remember right, he was adviced by Lennon and Ono to have a check up with an iridologist, who looked at his iris... and modified his diet;
- in those years he had some shows with Eddie Simon on guitar. |

 | He had a macrobiotic diet, adviced by Lennon and Ono. |

 | That´s why he lost some weight and was so slim in those days: "the Lennon and Ono diet better than Slim fast and Weight Watchers"!!! |

 | Seems Simon had realized both and, as always, found some help in writing.
"runs his hands through his thinning brown hair"
"and then there`s all that weight to be lost". |

 | The macrobiotic diet is supposed to help you age more slowly, thus lose hair more slowly! It´s all natural and raw.
Also, I am Danish now. :-) |

 | Hi, does that mean, you are the former "Lekornee" ?
If so, welcome in Europe, but I am not entitled to say so.
You will soon find out, that "Europe" is a very different thing. Denmark voted against it, and possibly France too. Seems, we have learned nothing out of history.
You (the people living in the U.S.) left us for a very simple reason: they were poor and had nothing to eat.
As Paul Simons grandfather.
But I like Europe and I am lucky that I can live here. Was only two times in the US and prefer to be here, also can confirm that I meant to see a certain superficial mind there.
But we have problems too, mainly being arrogant and knowing everything better. And we are not the center of the world anymore!
So we long for sensitive and gifted artists like Paul Simon...

 | Reminds me of Simon´s story about the words in "Fakin´ It"..."I own a tailor´s face and hands"......only to find out his grandfather was a tailor and called Paul Simon.....Simon wrote the song BEFORE he knew this..............eerie! |
