When she released her book "Surrender the pink", Paul was not very happy because the main male character was OBVIOUSLY him...

Personally, I think that Carrie was the Love of Paul´s life....Just look at how happy he is in all of the pictures taken with her....I am sure he loves Edie and of course he has a family with her, but she is so much younger...I mean when Paul went to England after the death of JFK because he had to get away from the insanity here, Edie wasn´t even born...also, how could she possibly understand how Vietnam tore this country apart?...Paul lived it...and it had a big impact on his music....Edie just has the history books of that era....they are from two different generations...

Once, Carrie said that, after all, he was the Love of her life...
Go on Carrie, you´re not dead yet!!!

But with Edie he has a family, which was always very important for Paul. Maybe it´s a different kind of Love, but I´m sure he loves Edie very much, when the children were little he protected his family very good for the outside world. Also he found lots of comfort with them after the disappointment from The Capeman.
Which I´m sure he would not have found with Carrie, she has a lot of problems of her own.
When you are from two different generations it doesn´t mean that you can´t understand Vietnam, there will be wars all time, they are all awful.

"The first time i saw you i thought, she´s beautiful, but too young to be caught"
Edie has certainly a character which fit better the Paul´s one...on this level,i think she looks like Paul: she is quiet, shy ("a very, very, very shy person" according to her mother) and discreet...not exactly the Carrie´s portrayal...

I am glad that he has found a peace and comfort with Edie and his children...I think that strain carries through on You´re The One CD...with "Quiet", "That´s Where I Belong"and some of the other songs...a contemplative, peaceful CD, also humorous, and a CD that maybe appeals mostly to his and, therefore, my generation...people who have been there, done that...and are now looking forward, looking back, and are mostly satisfied with where we are.....in retrospect, "Hearts And Bones" CD admittedly very wrapped up with his tumultuous relationship with Carrie, is very painful.....I am glad he is beyond that now....

The only thing you forget Ebth when you talk of Carrie as the Love of Paul´s life is this. They were together for 5 years and had nothing but trouble throughout.

She would constently ask Paul to marry her and he didn´t want to as he was still wounded from the divorce from Peggy.

When they married Paul just gave in, he decided at a baseball game.

There was mostly heartach throught their relationship. Carrie even took Arties side when Paul had removed his voice from H&B.

To be honest I really don´t think it was a relationship made in heaven. Carrie had a serious drugs problem when Paul met her and she had it throughout their relationship. So to be honest I really don´t think that helped things.

I´m not saying I dislike Carrie, I don´t, but I do feel that some think it was so sad etc etc how Carrie was the love of his life blah blah blah. Thier marriage lasted less than a year....I don´t think it was that good some how.

Yes maybe Edie is older than Paul and she hasn´t lived through the history he has. But you can´t help who you fall in love with. Paul is anything but a nostalgic kind of guy and Edies the same. They feel for each other when they met.

It is sad that they´re not closer in age. And I am very sure that Edie knows what she has let herself in for, she isn´t daft. But the way I think she sees it is this, and I feel Paul thinks the same. That if she has 20, 30 ro what ever years of happiness with a man who loves and adores her. Who is a great dad, etc etc...then she is the luckiest woman in the world.

There are plenty of men and women out there who have had 2 or 3 marriages in the time they have been together and have little to show for it....

Ooooooooh I seem to be having a rant here....lol

Sorry, I just feel the need to defend Edie, that maybe because we are much of an age and I know how my sister feels, who is married to an older man. Her first husband treated her badly and the only good thing that came from it was her two older children. Now she´s with a man she adores and he adores her. They don´t care about history she has missed out on. He doesn´t care, he loves her. And there´s about the same age difference between them as there is between Paul and Edie.

Ok..I´ll stop now....

Hugs

Still think Carrie is the hotter totty. Especially that famous picture of her in the flat cap. (Should appeal to all Yorkshire lasses, actually!)

I agree Marieno...I once read somewhere that Carrie said she was into going to the fair and buy bright tee shirts and Paul wasn´t. She was an extravert and Paul was an introvert. She wanted to go out and have silly fun and he didn´t.

Way too different IMO. I know you need some differences in a relationship, but not to extremes.

Oh, this is getting really serious!! Tell me everybody, if you had one question to ask Paul what would it be? Only one question, mind.

main reason why I´m kinda glad not to have met him, don´t think I could ask anything intelligible straight to theBIg little guy´s.
in response to someone sugestion that Turkey is Irish I think she mention in the review section that she came from spain/portugal. I´m afraid we are too much of a begrudging nation to openly admit our adoration for quality acts. Just look at the reception Madonna is getting compared to the low key publicity surrounding the S&G concert. not even mentioned on the evening news!

anyway my question would be "can you not stop pushing that you´re the star of S&G - you should be big ehough for that now?
