 | I have bought the boxset too and uploaded it to my ipod. But I´ve only listened to each of the bonus tracks once. |

 | By converting it to mp3 (or whatever compression Apple uses), you actually lose quite a bit of the original CD quality. |

 | Yes - mathematically.
But they have made several tests with musicians, music teachers, and sound experts - played one original track from CD and then the same song as an mp3. The experts couldn´t tell which one was the mp3 (50:50)on all kinds of music (pop, rock, hiphop, singers, oldies...) except when listening to classical music like Bach or Beethoven they had a better chance to find out which one is the mp3 (around 80:20) - simply because of the higher dynamical range this music has.
But you shouldn´t compare the sound from a CD player and your stereo system with the sound of a cheap sound card in your PC connected to a stereo system - this is the system which produces the difference.

 | It depends of the resolution of the mp3.
Talking about 128-mp3, I am pretty sure that I can clearly tell a mp3 from a cd-track.

 | Then you should have made this test and maybe win 1000 DM

Conclusion: Experts (and we are talking about experts having a 20.000 Euro Sound system at HOME) can hear the difference between 128kb and Cd - but not between 256kb and CD.
Normal listeners will not hear any difference.
Anyway if you are using a cheap D/A converter in your sound-card it will produce another sound than your CD player. |
