| In the mid seventies Paul invited Randy Newman as host on SNL. He sang a part of one of his songs and then Randy did his perfomance. Maybe his first time on TV? Certainly a great compliment and it helped him.
His first hit was "Short people" from the album "Little criminals" in 1977. Single and album went gold. It brought him harsh critics from several organisations, but certainly not from Paul Simon, who sang with him on the song "The Blues" in the early 80`s.
Randy had one other hit in 2004 with "You`ve got a friend in me" and was a successful composer for movies. Born 1943, 6 foot one inch (not short, if so maybe Short People had been accepted). |
