  | 1 Proof (Intstrumental intro by band)
2 Boy in the bubble
3 50 ways
4 Werewolf
5 Dazzling Blue
6 Mother and Child Reunion
7 (El condor pasa - instrumental)-> Duncan
8 Me and Julio
9 Still crazy
10 Spirit Voices
11 The cool cool River (introduced by Vincent as a african song named "e kong" - Vincent was dancing then!!)
12 That was your mother
13 Diamonds
14 Call me Al
15 Wristband
16 Father & daughter
17 Late in the Evening
18 The Boxer
19 SOS (solo on guitar)
There is (for me) a new young band member playing trumpet. But Paul never introduced the band.
Soundmix was very bad during the whole performance. Paul once wanted to to a song again (Werewolf)..but then did not, as it wouldn't have changed anything
Hope I see another show in June at a small venue. |

  | Thanks for the set list Bodo. I did read the sound was not the best. The trumpet player was C J Camerieri.
He also played on the Sting Tour. Amiss of Paul not to introduce the band. Cannot understand why . He did not on the Sting tour either ,though Sting certainly did.

  | Thanks Brenda, so I mixed that up - I do not know the name of the accoredeon player (I think it was not Bruce Sunpie Barnes, not from the pictures I have... this guy on accordeon was wearing a blue hat, sunglasses and was not afro-american..but had a nice teint) |

  | Hi mog
I do not agree on the sunglasses ;-)
Werewolf did not work. Sound was terrible at this point of the show, I could not hear much more than a lot of "noise from different instruments". Paul asked to the side of the stage if he should do it again due sound problems....I guess someone from the crew shaked his head.
It is interesting that this review is judging Simon (or the song selection), while I can say: They played all the songs as usually (that band knows these songs since 20 years!), but the sound-mix produced by the engineers and/or sound system was just flat.
The loudest instrument was Jim Oblons bass-drum, it hammered so loud that even during subtile songs like The Boxer it leaded the song.
Also during The Boxer Vincent had a moment of frustration (I would say so), as he started to hammer with his fist onto his guitar and pointed to a crew member on the side, that there is no sound. Interestingly we could hear the hammering.
During the first 3-4 songs Pauls microphone sounded like there was no bass or room in his voice. I could hear that they played around with the settings then. Still for the whole show his voice was never loud enough (usually the drums and bass have been loud)
But also overall the sound was not loud enough, I was only around 20 meters away from stage, but during quiet songs like Dazzling Blue or Still crazy the audience around me was louder than the music. And the audience was not really loud, just the usual walking and a little bit chatting. I think the sound system for that outlay is too small (there arent any speakers in the back, only on stage..). When he played SOS I already was walking out, so I was even more far away, and you had to concentrate and look to the stage to hear the song. I have seen a youtube video closer from the stage (5-8 meters) and there the sound was better/louder. Too bad those tickets cost 900$ :-(
Piano solo by Mike was okay (sound of piano worked), of course this audience did not understand it. A big mistake was that Mike was NOT visible, he was behind the piano...camera tried to catch him but you could only see the top of his hair. I guess most people asked themself where that strange piano music came from. Having a solo from an invisible musician does only work in your living room, not at a live show.
Yes, the camera did only film Paul. (but was that his fault, no...I guess these guys doing the videos were just not interested in Pauls music)
But the review is wrong! I guess Simon (maybe) realized that they only film him, so during the bass solo he danced, looked at Bakithi, and rotated his arms pointing at the floor to show Bakithi exactly where he should stay (on Simons place) to do his solo - and to be on the screen. This should have worked (for the last bass solo)
I do not understand the last sentence of this review? This person only saw the video screen all the time?
In his final moments at Jazz Fest, Simon was invisible to all but those closest to the stage, the last awkward moment in a set that had more than its share of them.
Audience was very pleased that Simon came back for SOS, but - as I said, the sound was not loud enough, so I guess people like this reviewer, standing far away from the stage, just heard that song as a far distant echoe. It is no joke, I could even hear the music from another stage during SOS, so I had to concentrate a lot - and the song never really touched me.
I guess a bad sound-setup and sound engineer can destroy a whole show.
I hope I can make it to another concert (I am working on it right now)
I will send a list of possible places I can go, let me know which one has a good sound setup. |

  | BTW:
Irma Thomas played before Simon - and sounded great, loud, moving, had a full orchestra there. WOOOAAAAM sound.
Elvis Costello and Brandi Carlile sounded great on the smaller stage the day before.
So I can not judge the sound system alone. I guess Red Hot Chilli Peppers also payed much louder on acura stage. It was the sound engineers who produced that... Maybe he just did not like Paul Simon.
I will upload a picture of that guy in his tent later. (I hope it is not the lightning guy..but anyway, there was nothing to do with the lights from 5 till 7) |

  | BTW:
Vincent was playing some percussion (new to me)
And he was introducing The cool cool river as an old african song (e kong?), he played some kind of african melody (I first had the impression this is a different song..I already was thinking how cool is that), then it developed into the cool cool river. Vincent even was dancing a little bit after his introduction and he smilled much much (did I say how much) more than usually. |

 | Hi Bodo,
it is very sad when the sound quality is bad. It can indeed ruin a whole concert.
Paul was always a sound perfectionist.
40 or 50 years ago it might be acceptable for visitors. When the Beatles showed up it was more to have been there and the young girls were crying so loud that the music was less important.
But today music fans have a good sound at home, often better than in concerts. In the sixties they (teenagers) had a simple record player with a simple speaker. No amplifier, not two speakers, and mono instead of stereo.
I hope you can see and hear Paul at a better place. |

  | This is filmed close to the stage
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=52& ;v=BuOOYFdpzkE
And even there the music is not very loud. Imagine that now 30 meters away, it always sounded as if the music is far away from you.
BTW: I was asked to be a "fan ambassador" for the company vivid seats... thats my chance to see another concert at a low price maybe. But there aren't many on our way. Either we have to drive to Nashville in 2 weeks (but we want to spend some more time in Florida now), or I have to be in Philadelphia on June 25 and head westwards to Chicago in 2-3 days (we leave on July 7 and want to stay a few days in Chicago) |

 | Cant' believe he is still into 'Cool, Cool River'. How many times has he played that song in tours in the last 25 years ?!
Play Obvious Child, Born at the Right Time, The Coast !!!!
Also, I like Duncan, but it has been visited in the recent tours. There is nothing else you want to explore in your catalogue, Paul ?! How about Something So Right ?
Also, off SBOSW, play the title track and Rewrite ! Dazzling Blue has its share during the last two tours... |

 | And I had been so close to going to New Orleans! How disappointing for you Bodo. I'd say Paul must've been rightly p.#%^^ off with the show! Normally he'dve made a joke about the geese interrupting? Was that his brother Eddie at the side of the stage at the beginning? |

 | Mog, Simon has always had a tendency to play HIS favorite songs, which are not necessarily the fans favorites.
At this point, when he has released so many albums, there are number of songs that he could have picked instead from the ones he played on the last tour. |

  | You can't please everyone all of the time ! PS fans have their own favorites . No one agrees on what the perfect set list should be. I am just thrilled he is touring and making great music at the age of 74. Count your blessings . |
