"Chautauqua Institution today posted an Aug. 16 date with Paul Simon — but it’s not a traditional concert.
Simon will join U.S. poet laureate Billy Collins and talk about songwriting. The CI post describes the show like this: “Two renowned artists sit together with microphones and a guitar to discuss the art of writing from the vantage point of their life’s work. This unique evening with two unparalleled artists brings their insights and personal stories to the Amp stage.”
With a guitar there, odds are you’ll hear a Simon song or two, right? One can hope.
Tickets will be $40 and go on sale April 1, along with the rest of the Amphitheater series."
For those who don´t know Chautauqua, N.Y. is near Jamestown, N.Y. (Erie, PA) & Lilydale, N.Y... About a 2 & 1/2 hour drive for me, & one that I´ll be glad to take!!

"
Songwriter Paul Simon and Pulitzer Prize-winner for Poetry, Paul Muldoon, talk about how the art of writing lyrics is a form of literature with writer Bill Flanagan.
Some highlights of this forum are Paul Simon singing to our audience with new as-yet unreleased songs at 0:44:00 "Love and Hard Times" and "Questions for the Angels" at 1:16:20.
At 1:27:00, Paul Muldoon reads the lyrics to "My Ride´s Here" which he co-wrote with Warren Zevon.
Finally at 1:41:00, Paul sings a song from the 1970s, "Peace Like a River."."

  | Thanks for the links. Should be a very interesting discussion with Billy Collins. Paul was also to appear with him at Emory university earlier in the month but cancelled as it was reported he had flu. Hopefully he will reschedule as soon possible.
I have watched the 2011 Paul Muldoon /Paul Simon discussion on lyrics as literature a few times. found it very interesting. Highlight for me was Paul talking us through how he wrote "Darling Larraine" Very amusing in parts.
Looking forward to the Steve Martin /Edie Brickell record. Have one track "When you get to Ashville" Very haunting and beautiful. |
