election, I don’t care, election
Let’s give that wolf a lethal injection

Well, that seems to be the only Paul Simon statement on elections...

No Bodo !

Think about this:

'I registered to vote today
Felt like a fool
Had to do it anyway
Down at the high school
Thing about the second line
You know, “Felt like a fool”?
People say it all the time
Even when it’s true'

This could apply as well:

h, and it’s the same old story
Ever since the world began
Everybody got the runs for glory
Nobody stop and scrutinize the plan
Nobody stop and scrutinize the plan
Nobody stop and scrutinize the plan

Here in the 51st state there is late night coverage of polls - parties by the us embassy ( although the ambassador himself is on Pittsburg !! )

And in the naked light I saw 10000 people maybe more people talking without speaking people hearing without listening

Hope the following is ok for liberal Paul Simon Fans:

Chinese can`t spell out the "r". One day an Englishman saw a big crowd in a town in China waiting to get into a room.

He asked one man: "Excuse me Sir, do you have elections?"

The answer: "Yes, evely molning."--

Congratulations to Mr. Obama!

Yes, we can! Shall I offer Mr. Obama congratulations or condolences? Who should wish to govern this unruly lot?

Following all that political elections in the USA I came to the conclusion (for myself) that it does not matter if a democrat or republican is the actual president of the USA. It does not change anything for the world nor do I see any substantial changes for the US citizens.

What I see ist that those elections and the whole process before it are dividing that country into 2 parts. I do not see that in other democratic countries. In our country for example it is not important from which state the vote comes, so there is no red south or blue west or whatever. Also our system allows other parties to have some impact (if you are above 4% you are automatically in the congress, it is not a 50% win or loose situation)

As an european it makes no sense to me that the vote of a person in Ohio is more important than a vote from a Californian... (Al Gore for example would have been our President - and if both candidates are under 50% there would have been a 2nd round, so for example a green or 'tea-party' candidate would not steal votes from the general winner...)

From my point of view the election system in the USA needs some update - I really hope that the european Union does not take this system somewhen in the future.

Bodo, I agree!

IMO, Clinton was much better than Bush jr., Kennedy much better than Nixon. But I also think, Reagan was better than Carter.

But today, the influence of the President of the United States worldwide is not the same as in prior times.

The election system, the horrible costs and the whole lengthy show, (during which no substantial decisions can be made), dividing the nation into two categories between 47/53; one should change something, but who?

I agree with much of what you both say -- I think the Electoral College should be abolished --it is not transparent to most voters, anyway. But enough U.S. election talk -- what's done is done. Back to the subject of music.

Back to music using Paul Simon`s words: "If I was the President, and the Congress call my name, I´d say who do, who do you think you`re fooling? I`ve got the Presidential seal, I´m up on the Presidential podium"--

My mama loves me.

Loves me like a rock was really an even more important boost to gospel than Mother and Child reunion was for Reggae.

He almost always was independent from "actual" musical tendencies and oftenly was a "trendsetter".
