Well, Songwriter did not seem to have charted at all in the Billboard 200. Despite lots of web ads...all in front of it are albums like ´The best of Barry White´. They should slow down a little on the compilations.

With regard to SBOSW, I was surprised to read the other day, I think it was The Wall Street Journal, that the album had sold about 250 000 copies. Is it right to say then that it sold less than YTO & even Surprise ? It is true that CD selling figures are decreasing in a crazy manner, but I quit have a sense that Simon has a niche or a core, and he is now sticking to it more or less. Finito.

nothing sells. all album sales are way down - even in digital form. check out the billboard weekly sales. Last weeks #4 sold 40k. Didn´t SBOSW open near 60k?

The business has changed so much. Not so many golds and just a few platinum. Adele and Kanye aside!

When Hearts & Bones flopped in 1983-84 I think I read that sales were 500.000 (maybe US figures only).
How high did SBOSW climb on the U.S. chart? I think it went quite high on that low sales figure, much higher than H&B anyway.

Hearts & Bones did not sell 500.000 copies in the US, which would have meant "Gold". It did peak about No. 35.

YTO sold a little more than 500.000 in 2000 and went Gold.

Surprise was far away from Gold, but went Gold in the UK (100.000).

SBOSW was in the US Top Ten peak No. 4.

Album sales dropped about 60 Percent from 2000 to 2010, 2011 probably more.

It was in the Top Ten of about 10 countries and did relatively well, better than YTO and Surprise when considering the market situation.

You also have to add the "De-LUXE-Version"-sales with bonus material.

Haven´t they changed how many records that need to be sold to be called "gold" considering the drop in sales? Or are they on the same level as always?

How many copies did H&B sell then?

I think H&B sold half a million (mentionned here previously), but at that time, it was considered a flop in Simon´s carreer. Now, it would be a great achievement for him to make SBOSW gold.

His favorite track from SBOSW ? GRFCD

Only Living Boy could have been a hit.

Do the Billboard charts include the download sales?

And how do they count the album sales? Do the different deluxe versions all count together as 1 album?
