Hi guys!!! It´s been ages since I´ve posted in this forum, but I´m back at long last!

Anyway, I just wanted to ask if anyone could recommend a good book about how to play Paul´s songs on the guitar. I´ve only played guitar for about a year and 1/2, so I´d like a book with detailed instructions, which is easy to learn from.

If anyone here knows of such a book, please recommend it to me, thanks!!!

I can recommend "The Complete Guitar Player Paul Simon Songbook" by Arthur Dick, Wise Publications (2 versions: "34 songs by Paul Simon" from 1988 and "The Simon & Garfunkel Years, 24 classic Paul Simon songs")
Both books have chord boxes and standart notation.
There are songbooks for most of his albums. I have "Greatest Hits, Etc." (no chord boxes), "Graceland" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water". Just look at amazon.com
And don´t forget this site: Stuff - Guitar Chords
However If you need more general instructions you may have to buy a course book (chords, strumming, fingerpicking, ...)

Do you want to play tabulatures or chords?
The best book I know is "Paul Simon: Transcribed"

amazon

It doesn´t have too many songs, but they are all explained very well (1 intro page for every song) and the book includes very easy songs (Old Friends, Scarborough, Kathy´s Song) and complexe songs (Late Great Johnny Ace, Heart´s and Bones, Peace Like A River) for more experienced players.

I like the book because it really includes EVERY tone, only 10 songs on 96 pages (so around 10 pages for 1 song)

It does but the postage is expensive because the offer is only available from the USA site.

Once you add postage the price is similar and I get new books this way.

Brandy. NO, I don´t recommend ANY book for learning to play Paul Simon songs....they are inaccurate and misleading.
What I DO recommend is Rich Kent´s site. Here he has the tablature to all PS / S&G songs. They are accurate and very easy to follow. Rich has spent many years studying, Literally, note for note, Paul´s songs. I´ve Not been on his site for a while, but I´m sure if you type in his name or ask in the room someone will get you to it.

Hi, Brandy. Plus, if you have played for only a year and a half and want to play Simon´s songs I recommend going onto a tablature site and learning the basics of Travis Picking, work on the technique using basic chords ,then progress to the songs. See, without the basic elemants of guitar technique in place, BEFORE you attemt Simon´s songs, it can lead to frustration. Been down the frustration road!! I hate sounding like a teacher, but it´s good advice.;)

There´s also a couple of books by Marcel Robinson called Fingerpicking Pal Simon (Vol 1 and 2 ). They have TAB and the traditional music to read from.

Well thanks, Bing Frisby, I´ll search for the site.

And thanks to the rest of you, for the book recommendations. I´ll sort through all this info, and see where I end up!

One last question . . . what´s the easiest S & G song to play on guitar? Just wondering, so I know what to start with. Is "The Sound Of Silence" hard? It´s my favourite . . .
