on pauls official page there is a contest to remix Love is eternal, and you can listen to the submissions. Its kind of interesting to hear what people have done with the tracks, and to hear how different the song could be with the same recordings just mixed differently

I listen now:

Don´t like one...if you find a good version that has at least a bit of the original song please post it.

You now see what a genius Paul is, if you listen to that crap :-)

I like this one.
Often (like in this remix too) the 96-Ford-part doesn´t work very good. I think it needs change in style and tempo but most of the remixes doesn´t give a thought about it. That´s too bad.

But sometimes people try to support the vocals with a piece of (selfmade) R´n´B or R´n´R (...whatever else). That´s intersting ´coz every time especially this piece creates a new atmosphere to the song. The range is wide.

Reminds me how much I like this part of the origin version and shows the importance of this part for the whole song in general. It provides a final kick to the song.

@ Bodo: Hey, don´t be so harsh. This is just for fun. Let the people be creative!

Uffff, very bad remixes. Hate this general sound of techno crap.

I maybe have to find more time to listen to it. I listened to the first 5-6 remixes and found them all very nerving (techno sound), most did not have anything in common with the song for the first 60-80 seconds...just boom boom boom.

I guess they will sort out a dozen of them and forward the really good ones to Paul.
The contest just started 2 days ago, so I am surprised how fast people came up with their remixes, well it just shows to me that they did not spend too much time on it. (?)

Well, I just can say it again: I am glad that we can hear it on those tracks: Paul Simon is a genius.

The remix of Andrew Camp is my favourite so far.
A few are really amateurish in a bad meaning, others are well done, even if I only like a few bars of some of the remixes. Many are like techno, house, trance, dub or whatever ... they use too little of the original tracks.

@Ute: Which remix do you mean? Your link shows all entries. What´s the name of the artist?

well, what is interesting to me is how different this kind of song or music is than something like "kathy´s song" a guitar and vocal. Here, getting the song right, as Paul does, means getting all the parts and tempos, etc at the right mix, and you can have a great song, but ruin it in the mixing. This reflects back to the whole Graceland thing to me, where simply having heard township music is not really the point, who made the original tracks is not really the point. Writing the lyrics and hearing the song within the music is the real gift.

@toki71: Sorryyyy!

Ran Doshus, Apr 15/ The Jim Morrison Icon.

As it´s said before here. There are sometimes nice ideas throughout some remixes.

There is one making a great use of the background vocals. Just can´t remember which it was.

I have absolute never done a remix before, nor do I have the right software, - so I have no experience. But if I would make one I would also lean on the background vocals and try to start the song with a doowoop part - maybe even taken from another track (Capeman? or The Moonglows).

I can not imagine that Paul Simon would like a techno version a lot...but he is more open to all kind of music than I am.

Whatever, anyone can take my idea...

Tumps up to Andrew Camp.
I think this will be the kind of remix they´re looking for.

Another good one: Christian Montagne/ Apr 16

I like the first half. The brand-new-96-Ford-part really should be different.

Yes, that´s a good one. I like the rhythmic harmonica there.

Synthraction made a very professional dance groove with electronic drums and bass but still using parts of the original tracks. I can imagine that remix being played in a discotheque/at a rave!

I guess it will be a tough decision for Paul (and us). So many remixes after only a few days of the contest.
I even played around with the tracks, but I´ve never done a remix so far. I´d probably add electric bass and acoustic guitar to it and keep the original drums so that it doesn´t sound too electronic. Anyone can download the files and mix them with the online mixing-program for free.

That was a cool idea of him or his record company!!!

@toki71: Do you read my mind? It´s scary, you know.

"I like the rhythmic harmonica there."

Synthraction
"I can imagine that remix being played in a discotheque/at a rave!"

It´s a standard-version though.
