 | So let´s start speculating. Someone said the album is 7 on Itunes. It´s running 3 and 5 on Amazon (separate deluxe edition), 2 and 4 in the Rock category.
IIRC YTO opened at 19 on Billboard. Surprise opened higher (14) but dropped quicker. SO?? Top 10 would be great with some staying power.

 | I think this will at least go Gold, and will, at least peak in the top ten. "Surprise" peaked at #4 in the U.K., but like "Hearts & Bones" & "Songs From The Capeman" didn´t go Gold...wonder how far off it is...maybe someday...
I´d hope that this would hit #1 & go platinum, and you never know. It certainly deserves it. We shall see... |

 | always seems to chart higher in the UK. It took a while for Surprise to hit gold in US. |

 | @Phil- Did "Surprise" go Gold in the U.S.? The Wiki Paul Simon discography says it didn´t. I hope it did, it certainly deserved to...now if only "Hearts & Bones" could limp over the line, 20 odd years later...closing in on 30! And then finally bringing up the rear "Songs From The Capeman". |

 | I thought I recently saw it listed - but now can´t find it. You´re probably right, no gold yet. Can´t believe that. |

 | I guess it went gold in the UK - causing my confusion. not sure what their sales requirements are.
From wiki: "With Surprise, Paul Simon achieved his greatest week of sales during the Soundscan era, when the album debuted at #14 on the Billboard 200 with sales of over 61,000 copies sold, which slightly surpassed the 60,000 units sold by You´re the One back in 2000".
So I guess we need to be rooting for, what? 70k units first week? |

 | Nice to know "Surprise" went Gold somewhere (and it peaked at #4 in the U.K. as well- you got you Brits!)...
I´m guess with those numbers I´ll be rooting for 75,000+. I think we could see that, and I think it´s got the potential to be either a #1, or at least a top 5 in the U.S., and I do think it will go Gold for sure, if not Platinum...but that could be my heart & not my head speaking...who knows with the music industry & scene the way it is today...downloads? How do they count, if they do? No clue here. |

 | On the "Dreamer of music" Site Surprise is listed as certified gold in the US. I believe they are very accurate with their informations. |

 | RIAA America hasn`t Surprise listed as Gold. My information is it sold less than 300.000.
YTO went Gold, but the last Gold for Paul was for Slip slidin` away as Gold (one million singles sold) in 2001. |

 | Hi Matthew
I am pretty sure these numbers (60,000 (silver), 100,000 (gold) and 300,000 (platinum) albums shipped )
have been altered over the past 10 years.
I remember you got PLATIN in a small country like Austria for selling 100.000 copies back in the early 90´s
So for UK this might have been a much higher number.

 | Today Amazon USA has the deluxe set as #2 in rock and #3 in pop = #3 overall. The album with just the CD is #3 in rock and #5 in pop = #5 in all of music. I wonder if in the long run they will total the 2 together when they count ticket sales. Is it unusual to have the same album with different configurations in the top five? |
