 | to Michiel´s comments - and I do not mean this harshly. Some artists don´t grow and evolve, same with fans.
Paul McCartney has written silly little Love songs for most of his live. Simon started great and yet evolved. (As Brian Williams said on Nightly News ´you´re the one who set the bar so high´).
But it´s the same with fans. I like the Old songs, but am not an ´oldies´ guy. Others got in a groove with S&G or early solo and stayed in that groove. That´s ok. But for me the greatness of Simon is that as he challenges himself, he challenges us. Question is: are we up to it? |

 | Well I think it´s all a matter of taste. The timing of the songs is not relevant, it´s not the time of the release that decides if a record is very good or not. Simon had superior work over his whole career. The Coast for example is a masterpiece in my opinion. But a lot of fans always tend to overrate the newest work. I always tend to rate every work in the light of all works. I can tell you, I´m a big fan, and maybe it´s me that evolved himself, as I try to look at his new album in a broader perspective than most fans who tend to overrate works the newer they are. I think Proof is also a huge fan, and at this moment Proof and I have the same opinion on the new album, and maybe that opinion will change as time goes by. But don´t speak about lack of growth or evolvement, because maybe the opposite is the case. But I´m very glad a lot of you enjoy this record very much. Because that´s what music is about! |

 | I have to admit... Maybe I´m Getting Ready For This New Album at last! Rewrite, The Afterlife and So Beautiful OSW or beautiful songs, I can´t deny any longer. Does anyone know whether the line "If an empty train in a railway station calls you to it´s destination, can you choose another track" somehow refers to Homeward Bound (railway staion/Destination) and the fact that he was born to make music? |

 | Michiel ,I believe you asked this question on another thread. Paul explained in the audio of "A guided Tour of the making of SBOSW "that the writer of the song was asking the question if our lives were predestined or if we could choose another way{track}. Maybe Paul was born to make music! Glad he stayed on the train! |

 | Michiel you are right when you say that people tend to overrate the new work sometimes above the older albums.
I think when it is released then most of us listen to just those new songs, but after some time you go back again to the older ones.
If I just have to rate which albums I listen too very often, then I guess it would be this order: (I can not include SBOSW now, it is to new)
ROTS
CP-1991
H&B (I think in the last years it has taken it´s rank before Graceland)
Graceland
PS Songbook
Surprise
The Capeman
......
....now it becomes unclear, I would say all the other solo albums come now, I never play any S&G albums, just a collection of songs, most from Bridge.
I have definately stopped listening to YTO, no reason why, some great songs on it.
Where will the new album end? I do not have a clue, at the moment it is the only one played. I think at least some songs are on my all time best list (Love is eternal, Love and blessings)

 | I agree that it´s a bit too soon to make a definiate opinion on the new album but it that´s some fantastic songs like Getting Ready, The Afterlife and Love & Blessings.
I DO listen even to the Old albums like Still Crazy.., There Goes Rhymin´ etc. They are all VERY good. Favorites though are ROTS, Surprise, Graceland, One Trick Pony and Hearts & Bones.
I also don´t listen much to YTO; something missing but still has some fantastic songs like Drling Lorraine and SWNOT. |

 | Speaking of "... public appearances and concerts..."
His new music was VERY well received at the kick-off Seattle concert (4-15). It was aligned with the 20th anniversary the local radio station akin to "this" genre. While "boomers" were aplenty, "we" were NOT the only age group in attendance. It would seem kids do listen to their parents ... and to their music! A saw at least 3 generations but gray, as in hair, including Paul´s, was definitely IN.
Paul´s music, IMHO, is about exploration, challenge, and evolution. This new album will prove it stand with the best of them. At or near the closing of the show he made reference to all the hard work and effort he put into it and how rewarding it was to now perform it live ... with a band, not just sitting in room working on it. And what a band it was! But that too is why Paul is so great ... he attracts greatness. Go see him ... while you still can. You will NOT be disappointed. |

 | The greatness of the album can only be proved by time. It´s funny, all the arguments you give that you now already can classify this is one of his greatest albums, are meaningless. He worked so hard on it, yeah, he did that on all his albums as he constantly is trying to give quality. There were 3 generations, yeah like was the case with Graceland concerts and albums after that as well. He has such an outstanding band, oh yeah, like he has already for years and years. And former bands were great also!! Do you remember the CP81 band for example? I agree that PS stands for quality, I´m a big fan as well, but I don´t agree that a classification of the rank of the album compared with others can be given right now. So I agree on this with Bodo for example. That needs time. I´m seeing PS in Brussels July 5, and I´m very excited to listen to him again. Already saw him 10+ times with or without G. Enjoy the concerts, you all! |

 | Hear me now. I saw the concert Friday night and the club show tonight. That new album translates amazingly to a live concert. People were singing along even to the new songs, and the reception was amazing. I disagree that this album is a nice girl with a good personality. She is smoking hot!!!! |

 | Hi Nancy, I like that when people are singing along even to the new songs! That´s very nice, I also saw that happening during the first Graceland concert ever which was Feb 1 1987 in Rotterdam. It happened also with most of his albums after Graceland and that´s always a nice experience, an audience which participates that well. Does not say anything about the album´s ranking compared to others, bye the way. |
