 | Nick from Widnes England writes:
What can I say about the new 40th Anniversary of Bridge Over Troubled Water. Well its released in its original format no extra tracks on disc 1 just the 1970 version. This is still a very powerful final album.
The Live in 1969 CD is very good, however I pre fair the Bootleg from the University Gig they did (See my Cuba Ci Nixon No posting) That concert was a complete Band performance and had more banter from both Paul and Art seemed more fun.
The final dis DVD is very good. For me the best part is The Harmony Game the story behind Bridge Over Troubled Water. This was a fantastic look into how they recorded the album and captured the mood of the time and the way they recorded.
Interesting to note re Cecilia no mention about Paul´s pet dog.
Why did the duo split up. Well Art said he needed a year off from Paul, he felt the album was very powerful and he needed time out. They just moved on musically into different directions and simply found they could not better as a duo the album.
Now your turn to review the box set.

 | Mine is due on thursday - looking forward to it!! BOTW is the only original studio LP or vinyl I have and thats only because it was part of the husbands dowry - I think it was his sisters originally - and of course it is badly scratched. |

 | The "Live 1969" is amazing some of the arrangements are a bit different - thinking of At The Zoo especially. The quality of their voices is fantastic, so pure and fresh. also knowing you´re listening to one of the first public playing of BTOW - can´t help wondering what the audience thought.
They play the longer version of The Boxer too - I had thought that only came out during the reunion concerts in the early 80s.
Funny that Artie suggested that Paul write a song about Frank LLoyd Wright and then this turns out to be Pauls farewell song to Artie.
This could be a regular CD in the car stereo along with CP 91.
Still to view the DVD. |

 | Scatty , did your BOTW edition come with Live 69 album as well as the BOTW album and dvd. The one I got from amazon US had BOTW album.the dvd and a booklet. I already had the Live 1969 so it does not matter, only interested in the difference. Agree Live 1969 is great and their voices never sounded better. In the dvd Paul explains they left out the other verse of The Boxer to make room for the instrumental section that Art wrote.
I was amazed, listening to Paul, Art and Roy Haylee, discussing the amount of work that went into the making of that album. It was a fascinating insight . Also the reaction they got from some people when Songs Of America was televised. Very poignant listening to Bridge and watching scenes of the funerals of Jack and Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King.
Really enjoyed both Songs of America and the Harmony Game. Have watched it a few times mow. |

 | Hi Brenda, yes the live 69 album came with it - as well as BTOW album and DVD. Just watched the harmony game - fascinating especially the parts about getting the echos. It also emphasised that Artie did a lot more than just provide the voice. |

 | Thank you for the info Scatty. That was really good value. Yes it was amazing the trouble they went to getting the exact sound they wanted. they all contributed so much. Maybe not surprising they were exhausted after making it. I also enjoyed the interviews with the musicians that were still alive. Would never have recognized them today! |

 | Hi Brenda and Scaaty,
Mine arrived yesterday and kids didn´t get a look in on the tele. I have played both programs and will listen to the CD tonight on way to Squash. I think it´s great, so much extra information. I got mine from JB Hi Fi online. I thought it was in stock but I think they ordered it in as it didn´t get dispatched straight away. Should complain about the cost tho $27 from 15 March, but $21 from 1st April. It´s not far off 1st April now, maybe should´ve waited. |
