 | "The Afterlife" By Paul Simon
(Lyrics corrected by Matthew)
After I died, and the make up had dried, I went back to my place.
No moon that night, but a heavenly light shone on my face.
Still I thought it was odd, there was no sign of God just to usher me in.
Then a voice from above, sugar coated with Love, said, `Let us beginâ?.
You got to fill out a form first, and then you wait in the line.
You got to fill out a form first, and then you wait in the line.
OK, a new kid in school, got to follow the rule, you got to learn the routine.
Woah, there`s a girl over there, with the sunshiny hair, like a homecomin` queen.
I said, `Hey, what you say? It`s a glorious day, by the way how long you been dead?â?
Maybe you, maybe me, maybe baby makes three, but she just shook her headâ?¦
You got to fill out a form first, and then you wait in the line.
You got to fill out a form first, and then you wait in the line.
Buddah and Moses and all the noses from narrow to flat, had to stand in the line, just to glimpse the divine, what you think about that?
Well it seems like our fate to suffer and wait for the knowledge we seek.
It`s all his design, no one cuts in the line, no one here likes a sneak
You got to fill out a form first, and then you wait in the line.
You got to fill out a form first, and then you wait in the line.
After you climb, up the ladder of time, the Lord God is here.
Face to face, in the vastness of space, your words disappear.
And you feel like swimming in an ocean of love, and the current is strong.
But all that remains when you try to explain is a fragment of songâ?¦
Lord is it, Be Bop A Lu La or Ooh Poppa Do

 | Me too. A very light, fresh and uplifting track. This is probably the best I´ve heard from Simon since The Rhythm Of The Saints. | | | | kris

 | as others have said in another post, the real player downloader, which is a free application, does a good job of downloading this file, and saves it as an MP3. I like the playback best on the VLC media player, another shareware | | | | Forum guest

 | linclink, my thoughts are with you at this difficult time. I just lost one of my beloved "four-legged children" to cancer and so I can somewhat understand what you are going through. Since I first saw S&G in concert 44 years ago, I have found that PS seems to release songs that are comforting at the exact times I needed them. Silent Eyes when my Mom passed, Slip Slidin´ Away when my Dad passed, Hearts & Bones when my first wife died. So I do hope the new album brings you both some comfort as well as some happy distraction from reality.
And, by the way, I Love this song. | | | | linclink

 | Richard- Thanks so much for your warm words of wisdom. It´s now my mom who´s facing the challenges of cancer, but she has a great attitude & is doing incredibly well with lots of alternative treatments. Her Old copy of "Bridge Over Trouble Water" is one of my first dozen or so memories of albums in my life.
I remember her driving a station wagon full of 4 of my friends, my brother, sister & herself to see the Simon & Garfunkel reunion show in Central Park, at the start of my senior year in high school. We had to travel from the Rochester area. After that we saw him solo in Saratoga Springs in 83-84 area, and then, she & I both drove two cars full of friends & family to see the Graceland tour at Radio City Music Hall. I´ve seen other shows since then, and I´m hoping to take her to one of the shows this tour.
I think she´ll dig the new album. Blessings Of Love & Light To You & Yours!! | | | | linclink

 | Geez I almost forgot that she also took a station wagon caravan of folks to see Simon & Garfunkel in Pittsburgh in ´82-83. Lots of special memories surrounding Simon & Garfunkel & Paul Simon with her.
And yeah, I LOVE this song too!!! | | | | Kerstin

 | The Afterlife is for sure a real classic, one of hos Top 10 songs of all time. I haven`t even heard it yet (will wait until the official release before I hear the rest of the album). The reason why "just know if" is that almost all songs that starts with or has the word "The" in the title are masterpieces. The Boxer, The Coast, The Cool, Cool River, The Only Living Boy, Late In The Evening, The Obvious Child etc. We can also put (The)lma and FaTHEr and Daugther on the list :) | | | | Lara
