And this is what some half wit journalist says about Paul Simon´s later work:-

Of course he doesn´t appear to realise that since Pauls last appearance with Artie in Dublin, he has played solo twice to sell out concerts in Dublin and Cork.

Sums it all up when he thinks Paul Mc is still on the up!!

Hm...but Macca is still 1-2 numbers bigger than Paul Simon today. I think most of the normal people are still surprised when a P.S. tour is announced and say :Oh, he is still making music? (same with Cohen)
While nearly all people know Paul Mc Cartney as a successfull musician in every century (beside having any real hit, but who had one in the last 20 years?)

Gerard is right. Even if Paul discovered the formula for a perfect hit record, it just wouldn´t happen. The music industry has moved on. Paul´s moved on, on Charlie Rose he said he´s at the stage where he´d find it weird to have a hit.

The new Christmas song seems to have been released in the US and right now it´s around #23,000 on the Amazon MP3 charts! http://www.amazon.com/Getting-Ready-For-Christmas-

Thanks(I think)Scaaty, that sea brain has no idea. Who is in championing then? Todays cast of non-talents? Let us see the longevity displayed by there new artists in just one decade. This happened in the eighties too. Duran Duran playing the nostalgia circuit,or Spandau Ballet surviving on their couple of hits is far sadder than S&G,Paul Simon or any of those names mentioned by that genius. I´m sorry but Simon Le Bon dancing around ringing Hungry like a Wolf is more tragic than Paul Simon singing anything from his career. Having page that, lets not forget, those couple of names from the eighties had more talent than todays flock of seagulls.

Paul Simon has always been bad to promote his music, and to be a star today you must have the papers and the media on you side t ex Bruce Springsteen, Mcartney, Dylan is more in media (alot more) and Simon. They get attention in media Simon get´s it when he travel whit Art.

I figure it´s up to us hardcore fans to do a lot of the promotion. A little media help would be nice but oh well, at least we know the music is good.

I read
#3,828 Paid in MP3 Songs

but what does that mean... with todays sales numbers I would say 4-5 mp3´s have been bought? Wrong? :)

Hm, I do not come behind it:
You Can Call Me Al is
#1,687 Paid in MP3 Songs

And then it says: this list is updated hourly.
I doubt they will count the sales ´forever´ because that would make no sense (once a song reaches number 1 you will not get rid of it)

So maybe these are the daily sales(?)

BTW: Walk tall is nr 42 in free MP3 offers, thats not bad...

Yeah, it´s gone up quite a bit now. It was definitely in the low 20,000s earlier today, probably before America woke up.

I´m sure more than 4-5 have been bought. :D Amazon.com is certainly popular, although the downloads are limited to the U.S.

Well, when I first listened to the song, I thought it was lacking character and missing many Paul Simoney things -lyrics were obviously those of Paul Simon, though-

However, listening through my Paul Simon collection once again, I fail to see how a song from the hand of a genius who wrote The Sound of Silence, Bridge Over Troubled Water, The Boxer and many may Simon and Garfunkel classics as well as so many great Paul Simon solo songs (You Can Call Me Al, 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover, Graceland, The Obvious Child, Kodachrome, The Cool Cool River and the others I won´t type in because it would take far too much time :P ) is lacking character.

So I thought I had to give the song at least one more chance if only for the sake of those songs I´ve just mentioned.

And I now think it is a decent song. It is different from what I´m used to hear from Paul Simon, but it is definitely better than many of the songs in Surprise, and at least half in You´re the One. This is a new direction for Paul Simon´s music, and the fact that it sounds better than the avarage of You´re the One and Surprise shows me that it´s the right direction for him. Paul Simon obviously hasn´t found his new style just yet -perhaps he did, but we won´t know for sure until the album comes out- but he is on the course of doing so.

I get the feeling that this post is going to be a one big wall of text, so here´s the essence: I thought Getting Ready for the Christmas Day wasn´t a good song, but when compared to Simon´s other 21st century works, it is different in a good way.

Phew. I guess that´s all I´ve got to say :D
