 | I am throwing a theory here:
That people that are more attached to S&G will tend to be less attracted by the new song, and that people more attracted to Simon solo and his explorations, will find the song appealing.
I have only one big problem against my theory: Bodo himself !

 | I do not agree, mog (& Freud :). I prefer Paul Simon to Simon & Garfunkel, I like a lot Surprise; also Love in Hard Times and Question for the Angels, but Getting Ready don´t seems to me a great song.- José Luis |

 | I´m a S&G fan, mostly because that´s where my life is in relation to Paul´s lyrics then, and the harmonies have a soothing quality. I´m a Paul Simon solo fan because there´s a comfort in the changes that his music has gone through. Somehow the feelings and themes remain true through all this change. (Think "Once Upon A Time There Was An Ocean"). I am yet to be disappointed by a Simon song, because the more I listen to his music, the older I get and the more I tend to understand and pick up on. "Getting Ready For Christmas Day": the first time I listened to it I heard something new, the tenth time I listened to it I still heard something new. He´s a complex individual, his music follows suit and so do we. |

 | I actually started listening to Paul Simon before I even listened to Simon and Garfunkel. I enjoy Paul solo a lot more. I Love when he explores musically to try and find that unheard sound. I enjoy his musical journey but for me, there is nothing special about "Christmas". I feel it was just a miss. No one is perfect, even Paul Simon. |

 | I became a Simon & Garfunkel fan in 1967. I have to admit that I like Paul Simon´s solo work more - but it´s a close call. :) The new song is so complex: the lyric is so mult-layered: it´s not really a "Christmas" song - it´s about "preparing" for Christmas. Is that a metaphor for getting ready to meet one´s Maker? Is it an indictment of crass commercialization of a religious holiday? Is it just about the bustle of the holiday season? I Love the weird stuff going on in the background, too. |

 | Haha, now you think way too simple mog ;-)
I am really by far not the only P.S fan who dislikes this song. (That was maybe my intention to start this poll, because I was afraid of beeing a S&G fan now. haha - but as I said: before I would go to a solo show where we only hear these sounds (for example Graceland with synth sounds and guitars), I would prefer to see a S&G show.
One thing I can add: Some people wrote that the new song remindes them of Cecilia, and if you only listen to the simple percussion (tak tak tak tak) thats very true. I do not like the song Cecilia a lot. |

 | Intersting conicidence, I dislike buttermilk too ;-) haha
Delete the sonic noise and the volume changes on the guitar-riff, and I would rate this song much higher. At concerts I might like it, because all this over-production things get lost. (maybe someday a ´early take´ of this song appears, only Paul on his guitar) |

 | Mog,I Love PS solo and like even SG. I love when he explores new sounds and melodies. I just have had a bad feeling with this song. I´m trying to listen it a little bit more but, by now, nothing happens... |

 | I prefer simple sound songs-I never liked the noise of the Scarborough canticle or the Silent Night newscast although I thought the idea was provoking-but I never heard the underlying song in canticle and the easy listening sound of Silent night was cut by the newscast sound-and now I find the same for Paul´s christmas song. As I get older and deafer I really enjoy Paul and his guitar versus a band. |
