Has anyone ever heard such a version where they cut out the ´J´ line on Late In The Evening?

I am not sure if Paul gave his amen to that - hopefully not, but maybe he is too democratic and allows everyone to have his opinion.
Anyway, I think you are not allowed to change any song lyrics without permission. I remember this stupid discussion about our national anthem this year. A young pop music girl changed some lyrics and has add ´and daugthers´ after the line ´great sons´.

(btw they did not change the melody, so the 2 new words just didn´t fit, she just sang it faster to catch up the next line ...thats another story)
They did not ask the original writer, so the publisher and beneficiary started to sue them.

yes Bodo Paul himself cuts it out in this version but I have also heard him do it on other occasions . Then again he went through a phase a few years ago of dropping the last word of a line for effect,

the next clip not sure if it is Paul or the Tv company that dropped it. Great version though !

if I remember any more will post them

I think Bodo is on to something here. Yes, recently in concert PS has dropped the ´j´ - I wonder sometimes if it´s having children of a certain age, or respect for the audience.
BUT!!! I seem to recall - distant memory -- when the song first charted some radio stations deleting the j. Anybody else?

Really? Paul cut it himself?
Ok, I haven´t been at a Simon show since 2006 - no chance - and I might have missed that detail in some reviews from you all.

So ok...his decission. Yes, I guess it is because of his own children, and our society will form into a society with extremer moral standards (into both directions). Paul Simon always wants to please everyone, so even his anti-war song Wartime Prayer will please pro and anti war opinions.

I like that article. I´d find it easier to explain that line to kids than try to explain some music videos they make today.
Would be such a thrill to hear a Paul Simon song in shopping centre or even on radio. In about a year I´ve heard Mrs Robinson on radio once and original version of BOTW came on at the local Sports Club which was nice. But that´s it. Listening to the wrong radio stations I guess. I tried requesting songs on a radio station website to no avail.

BTW, the Kookaburra song (which I previously posted about copyright issues) was in the news again here in Aus when a school wanted to change the line ´Gay your life must be´ to ´Fun your life must be´. Public backlash caused the school to back down and sing original words.

If you go into any branch of Hobbycraft and listen to the background music playing you´ll be able to hear one S/G song, one solo PS song and even a Harper Simon song.

campfire radio on line - plays Paul Simon and S&G songs regularly. also some music programs on Irish radio especially if you text with a plug for it.

One of Pauls recent greatest hits albums (shining like a national guiter) omits the f word from one of the Capeman songs (?Vampires). very obviously wiped out.

Well Helen as a fellow Aussie,I found all that a lot of bulls**t!! A proverbial storm in a teacup. Some people are never happy unless they´re grinding their axe against something totally innocent and unbelievably unnecessary! Generations of Australian children grew up singing that song with that Oh so offensive lyric intact. Long may it continue.

Ian,
Sorry I missed your reply. I can understand the school not wanting to sing the original line, you´d have to always explain the original meaning and put up with sniggers from kids. ´Gay your life must be´ has a few different meanings now. Either don´t teach kids the song or change the line. They´ve changed other kids rhymes to be more politically correct, such as one I remember with the ´n´ word changed to ´tigger´ which the kids still use today.

I heard a little bit of ´You Can Call Me Al´ on a promo on the classic rock station today. Still hoping to hear a PS song on that station tho.
