 | I think I posted that link last week Bodo and you´re right-it is an interesting article. When you think about it,you could write a cool about that whole episode. Take a look at the musician and engineer credits on ´Hearts And Bones´. It´s an incredible array of potential interview subjects. It´s been done before-books about the recording of a single album that is. I´d Love to see a boot about the period just before CP81 up to the release of Hearts and Bones. There´s so much soap opera potential in those few years. I might have to write the book myself:) For example;Paul has said he was given Accordian Jive Hits Vol 2 sometime in 1984,yet I absolutely remember him saying in a radio interview that if was listening to South African music on his walkman during the Australian leg of the S&G tour in early 1983. Maybe one of the musicians or crew might have a clear memory of it. I just think it´s an interesting period. It could take in his writers block, the two years touring, his second marriage, the calcium deposits in his hand and his subsequent re-learning of the guitar. I´ll start the interviews next week:) |

 | I apologise for all the spelling mistakes. Of course I meant ´you could write a book´,not ´...write a cool or a boot´. |

 | Hi Ian,
I´m interested to know where ´We are the World´ / USA for Africa, fits in, recorded in January 1985. Was this before their divorce? Did this influence him to go to South Africa to record. I think it´s all very interesting too. Maybe he went there intentionally to do more for Africa, really the only way to put the spotlight on South Africa and apartheid. It´s great to now see South Africa hosting the Soccer World Cup, and know that Graceland had a part in a free South Africa. |

 | Hi Helen,as far as I know,Paul had already been to South Africa at least once to record by the time the We Are The World session took place. I remember that period pretty well and I don´t recall any articles in magazines mentioning Paul recording in S. Africa at that time. Which seems strange, because you could never keep something like that quiet these days I´m sure. The first I heard about the African connection, indeed the first I heard about a new album back then was just 2 weeks before Graceland´s release, and that was on the Channel 9 news here in Australia. |

 | Sorry Helen, yes I believe Paul and Carrie were divorced by that time, but I believe they actually continued their relationship beyond that. Maybe I´m wrong about that. |

 | I think the relationship went until 1990 or something like that. ROTS songs are still linked with Fisher.
Out of curiosity, I would like to find out eventually when the lyrics for ´Thelma´ were written. Is it possible that the audio track were recorded as an outtake during ROTS sessions, but the lyrics written and vocals done in 1993 ?
We always thought this was about his encounter with Brickell and the birth of their 1st child, the latter happening in...1992 !
But does anyone cares, except us ? LOL !!! |

 | Hi mog
I thought he met Edie Brickell much earlier, think the first time in 1987 or 1986 (SNL) . So I do not believe their relationship went on till 1990 (Carrie-Paul) |

 | When I saw Carrie´s show, she said they were together off and on for 12 years. |

 | 12 years... well, let´s speculate it was from 1976-1988 :)
Or, as Mrs Fisher is always making some good/bad jokes about her relationships - maybe it was 6 years and this time felt like 12 years.. :)
Wikipedia.org says Fisher dated musician Paul Simon from 1977 until 1983, then was married to him from August 1983 to July 1984, and they dated again for a time after their divorce.
BTW: I did not know that Fisher was dating Dan Aykroyd in 1980, and they were thinking of a marriage... poor Paul :)
This whole circle around SNL seems to be a dating pool.

 | During that same period, specifically 77-78 Paul was also dating Shelley Duvall I believe. Multiple partners was considered very sophisticated in showbiz circles, you know:-). So during their ´off´ periods Paul and Carrie would return to their natural coasts to seek out Old acquaintances you might say. |
