Hi folks
I´m an independent filmmaker and long-time Paul Simon fan. I´ve just produced a short film (4mins) using ´Bookends´ and ´At The Zoo´ as the soundtrack. Anybody know if it´s possible to gain permission from Paul or management to use these songs for a youtube/vimeo clip? Not wanting to profit from the venture at all, but wishing to avoid a copyright ban. Am I being extremely naive? Should I try to find contact info for Paul´s mgmt and send them a link? Opinions?
Cheers, dave

Have you tried to upload tour video on to u tube? I have been able to upload using early s and g material . The e mail from you tube just after loading says available everywhere except Germany. But using Paul solo they mute the sound. Using "The Boxer "from the Concert In The Park" was muted but I re did it with the Live 1969 version and no problems. Maybe it depends on the record label. There is a away to get around the block which is documented on the net but I would be wary of using this as it does infringe copywright. A lot of people must do it though. Hope this has been of some help to you. Otherwise you could try to contact Paul´s management . The address is on this forum. Hope thisn has been of some help to you.

Paul´s management must be set up to receive usage requests. After all plenty of people cover his songs and he gets the royalties so there must be an easy way to contact-what about ascap? Is that the group set up to monitor royalties?

You have to contact the local Warner (or CBS now?) management.

Usually I do not think you will have any luck. Remember the S&G musical in Sweden 1-2 years ago? Although Paul said it is okay, the local Warner boss thougth he has to stop the whole thing....

Hi Dave,

There are multiple videos on Youtube using other artists music which make no profits. In fact it serves to promote those artists so generally I don´t think you can get persued for that. If you want a license you have to contact PS managment. I have just secired a license and release a new version of "The Boxer". I needed the license as it is now available on iTunes and other similar sites. Since there may be sales involved I will need to pay Paul Simon a percentage.

Here´s the iTunes link for the new version of Paul Simon´s classic "The Boxer". by Simon Potts http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-boxer-compose

Does anyone have a place to upload
your videos except Youtube. I gave up
on that as nothing will upload in two
weeks, and all I get is unknown error,
doesn´t seem to matter if it´s mp4 or
mpg, nothing will be accepted.
