Nick from Widnes England Writes:

The two main acoustic guitars that Paul Simon uses on stage are as follows:

Yamaha LS400 (black)

Custom made by Luther Terumi (Terry) Nakamoto. These guitars come to Paul with pickups and volume and tone controls already installed. He has been adding internal mikes for amplification.

Yaamaha even produced a replica of Paul´s guitar , the FJ681 "Paul Simon edition" which had a similar appearance , though certainly not the same quality of construction as Paul´s custom LS400´s.
The other main guitar is :

OM 42 PS Martin Scale with long (25.4") scale length which provided particularly applicable to Paul´s fingerstyle technique and his desire for a strong yet balanced tone.

My enquiry is can we get a hold of either of the guitars still. I know that the Martin guitars where a limited run. Not sure about the Yamaha guitars.

It seems a shame that Eric Clapton (another hero of mine) has his own production Martin, available through the dealers. Why can we not persuade Martin to produce more of the Paul Simon model.

My question is simply would those of us here on the forum who play guitar actually want to own a signature Paul Simon guitar.

What do you guys think should both Martin and Yamaha produce a new version of their Paul Simon guitars? Also would member here actually want to buy one of them?

You can read about Paul Simon,s guitars as follows:

Barb thanks for the reply

I own 8 guitars 4 acoustic and 4 electric my main acoustic is my black Epiphone SQ180 Signature Don Everly. Whilst my main electric is my Fender Eric Clapton Signature Stratocaster gold lace sensor pewter 89 version.

Check the web link for information on Paul Simon´s guitars.

I happen to be a bit of an expert on the guitars and can bore you all with details on each.

Paul Simon was the reason I took up guitar age 13/14 now age 38 I try to play like Paul Simon, Don Everly and Eric Clapton.

Maybe we should set up a guitar section to talk about our guitars .

Never regretted buying mine for one minute even though I´m not a very good guitar player.

Hi Nick,I too took up guitar because of Paul Simon. I used to watch CP81 repeatedly as a 15 year Old in an attempt to work out what Paul was playing, where his fingers were situated etc. I even bought an Ovation guitar in an attempt to emulate my hero, even though if appears to have only used that particular guitar for that 1981 alone:( It´s great to hear you say Paul is one of your guitar hero´s,along with Don Everly too! I´ve always loved the Everly´s terse strumming style (watch the Old Friends dvd for evidence). Julie, how does your Paul Simon model sound compared to other guitars in your opinion. Whatd gauge strings do you use,and is it nice to play, easy to bend strings...So many questions-I´ll stop now:)

Nick from Widnes England Writes:

Paul´s Ovation guitar was left with his then wife Carrie Fisher who gave it to her brother then it was auctioned off. Check my other forum blogs on Paul´s Guitars for link to web site about Paul´s Guitars.
