 | Nick from Widnes England writes:
If you could only pick one song from the entire Paul Simon catalouge which one song would u choice and why?
My choice would be:
"Homeward Bound" Well Widnes my home town here in North West England is credited as being the insperation behind the song. In fact as documented by me in other areas of the forum I tell the story of Paul Simon´s 1965 visit to Widnes.
Being born in 1971 I sadly missed this historic event.
Well gus pick ur one song and tell us why you choce it. Over to you guys!!

 | Hi Nick,
I read your piece about Widnes, amazing to actually live there. Widnes would have been memorable for him as he got to stay at someone´s comfortable home and they named their daughter Angie after the song he played for them.
Kathy´s Song is a favourite.
I feel that it belongs to the pre S&G era, a PS solo. It ´s lyrics are clear, beautiful, heartfelt.
Its the song which clearly draws the line between his early solo work and the start of S&G.
It expresses a regret about leaving behind his life in England and a longing to be with his girlfriend Kathy, and I think he really questioned whether he wanted to go back to USA and be part of a successful duo who just hit No 1 on the charts, or stay in England and continue working solo.
I Love the line ´There but for the grace of you go I´. Kathy´s ´grace´ allowed him to choose the path of going back to USA and pursue his music career as S&G and produce the beautiful music the world enjoys. |

 | Hi Nick!
If I only could choose one, I surely would pick "American Tune" (the live version from the LP Greatest Hits, etc. -1977 or so-), that I couldn´t listen in digital format, up till now) |

 | Me too Nancy, on the lyric level, the Sax, the music, the way Paul sings the words Still Crazy, his New York accent coming through! This song more than anything else is the sound track of my life!
For some reason if I have had a few drinks I am SOOOO CONVINCED that I could sing this song perfectly if given the chance! ! Thankfully as I am totally tone deaf no one has ever given me the opportunity to:))) |

 | Mine has to be The Boxer.I must have heard it a million times over the past 40 years by both S and G and Paul and have never grown tired of it.Great lyrics and Paul´s guitar is brilliant. Wartime Prayers comes a close second but The Boxer has stood the test of time.OMG Imagine having only ONE Paul Simon record! |

 | The songs I listen to the most are The Boy In The Bubble and Graceland.
Cool, Cool River means the most. |

 | The sound of silence is the most clever.
The Boxer is a national anthem ! |

 | Hmm this is always tough. I was trying to think during the week of my favourite S&G album or my favourite Paul Simon solo album.. I actually couldn´t choose. I think every album he has ever made is amazing!
But i have 4 favourite songs.. They would be Kathy´s Song, America, The Cool Cool River and Duncan. Probably Kathy´s Song if i really had to choose. |

 | Pfff. Very hard to chose just one !
I would chose 3 of them : Hearts And Bones because it´s a very private song and I Love the guitare there, Kathy´s Song : the only song that could make me like rain ;-)and The Boxer because it´s a perfect song ;-) |

 | To me, the very best one is "Kathy´s song" for its poetry and deep Love expression (and music as well).
But I LOVE also "Duncan" : lyrics, music, story ... ;-) |

 | Only 1, then You Can Call Me Al. That sounds not very special I know, and I Love other songs more... but while these other songs change very often, YCCMA was always one of the top 10 songs.
Hearts And Bones might be a better choice.
But hey - can you imagine that there is only 1 song left, and for the next 10 years you can only listen to that song? |
