I was on the Paul Simon official website just to check it out, I was reading the lyrics to Soft Parachutes and the line "Now I am flying down some vietnam highway" was altered. It says "Now I am flying down some weird highway." I know its not a big deal but I was just wondering why Paul would purposely change that one word in the song on the website.

Hm, might just be a typo bye the website admin. Otherwise it might not make a lot of sense if you only change it on the website.

The Lyrics 1964-2008 has ´some vietnam highway´.
(On amazon.com you can use the ´look inside´ function to search the book which I´ve found handy)

Also found on paulsimon.com that the list of songs for The essential Paul Simon CD has only half the songs.
There´s quite a few errors with repeated links to songs listed and access denied on some of these on the website.
I think that Warner Bros. Records
runs the website, at least the mailing list comes from them.

I also noticed that in I Am A Rock it states that the lyrics are "a fortress steep and mighty" i always thought it was deep and mighty? maybe i´m wrong

That´s what I always thought too, and it´s correct as far as I know.

Nick from Widnes England writes

It is a fortress deep and mighty in the lyrics to I Am A Rock. Its one of my fav songs of Paul Simon. Loved the version on Your The One Live

In my piano music book of S&G Greatest hits it has ´a fortress deep and mighty´ which I bought in the late 70s.
(It also has the words and music to the canticle on Scarborough Fair)

This book was printed and distributed in England. I´d like to know whose job it is to transcribe the music.

On the You´re The One Paris Concert DVD subtitles it is ´deep and mighty´. I have always sang it as deep and I´m not gonna change now!

I wonder how many other lyrics people have sang incorrectly before learning the correct words.

I remember reading on a thread here once that someone interpreted ´seeking out the poorer quarters´ from The Boxer as ´seeking out poor reporters´. And, I admit, I thought exactly the same for years!

It sounds like he sings ´a fortress steep and mighty´ on Paul Simon Songbook.
