 | Nick from Widnes England writes:
Simon and Garfunkel performed their first full reunion concert back in September 1981. During which Paul Simon performed a new song solo called "The Late Great Johnny Ace" Part way through the song a fan managed to get onto the stage and tried to get to Paul. The fan was stopped by security. This was shown on the Concert Video/DVD. The song was not featured on the Audio Casstette Vinal Record or reisue CD. Maybe because Paul was interupted. Unshure.
Then years later when Paul perfomred solo in Central Park, another song went missing. During the final encores Paul performed a fantastio version of Cecilia including a harmonica solo this was on the Audio Casssette and CD isues but not the VHS Video.
Does any one know why this is so. Spooky Late Great Johnny Ace is on the S&G Video not the Audio version. Then Paul´s solo Cecila is on the Audio version of The Concert Inm The Park but not the VHS Film.
I wouder way this is so, suprised thst the egale id members here did not spot this.
Oh and yes I think The Concert In The Park should be isued on DVD in 5.1 Souround, sound.
Over to you guys!

Me too. Why is it not on DVD? He says this is his favourite concert.
Can we start a petition to have it released on DVD? Submit it with our questions. |

 | Inofficial version: When Paul walked onto the stage for the reprise (Cecilia), he fell over 1 step of the stage. Does not look so ´cool´, but he does not fall or something. Some people say that is the reason why Cecilia got erased from the video later.
Anyway, I think they just had to cut some songs to have a 120 minute tape.
the LaserDisc Version has only 100 minutes, so they had to cut 1 or 2 songs more. |

 | Bof...no big deal for me CP 91.
I am surely puzzled why it is not on DVD yet since companies have almost released everything human beings have ever produced on DVD (even OTP ! LOL !).
I can see several reasons :
- There is no appetite, except among us, for this dvd.
- CD is dead, and DVD is a bit passé now given the popularity of downloading (mostly illegaly). They would not be able to make it profitable.
- There might be commercial issues involved that we are not aware of. Would Olodum for instance be obliged to consent, or would Paul be obliged to negociate new deals with them for that ? I don´t know...I just noticed that he has never sung The Obvious Child live since the early 1990. |

 | What I read somewhere .... attack on Paul in 1981 wasn´t real attack, but it was planned because of the text of song. And I also read that 1991 won´t be on DVD because of some kind of licence which will expire next year. |

 | It is never released on DVD because of a deal with Pioneer for the Laser Disc, Paul (CP91) and some other artists like Tina Turner, Willie Nelson (Big Six-O) made a deal with Pioneer to release it on LD. I have no idea how the deal was made and when they will be able to release it on DVD and Blu-Ray.

 | next year?
Wasn´t Johnny Ace performed for the first time ever on the S&G 1981 show? So how should he know the lyrics. |

 | I don´t think the fan getting on stage was planned. Just look at the look on Paul´s face. |

 | I was one of the lucky ones there in ´81 and have the HBO broadcast of the whole show. you never get to see much more than a glimpse of security grabbing the guy. believe me he got hauled off fast by a bunch of guys. always believed it to be a strange coincidence at the debut of that song. |

 | What I have just found in book I have (Simon & Garfunkel, Paul Simon Songbook from year 2000) it says it was prepared fake attack and man said "I want to have a word with You".... just theatre for fans when Paul was singing about John Lennon being killed, probably to show that it might happen any time or I don´t know real reason :) |

 | I highly doubt that that was planned. Paul would be a very good actor, to "play" a reaction like that. And I can´t believe that someone responsible for that concert would have such bad taste, to stage a thing like that. |

 | Never heard about that book, who wrote it?
I am pretty sure that Paul himself would never plan something like that, for him the music is too important.
And as Mimi said, you really must have a bad taste if you plan that.
I want to have a word with you?
I thought the sentence was:
I have to talk to you?
What I also know - these things happens more often than we believe. So Paul is used to that situation a little bit. In 2002 in Munich also a young man jumped on the stage, he was behind Paul, and laid his arms around him (but from the back!) - to dance with him. Well Paul was maybe confused for a moment, but I remember he smilled first, then the security guy came and took the guy away. The song wasn´t even interruped by the band or Paul.
Only bad thing was, that this security guy after a later show (Montreux) thought that I(!!) was this guy, which was complete nonsense. But someone from the band cleared things up.
