 | On the BBC light entertainment programme ´The One Show´ tonight they interviewed Charlene Spiteri (lead singer of the band Texas).
She was talking about her new album and mentioned the producer is Phil Ramone who is currently working on a new Paul Simon record and has done many more in the past.

 | Not surprised...we can see Ramone engineering ´Biko´ in the Simon/Gabriel clip. |

 | I am surprised.
Would be definately a good idea, to promote the own solo album on a big S&G tour ;-) But I guess that might not be the idea, and we might have to wait a little bit longer.
Anyway, that is the best news ever. This album could become a real hit, back to the 70´s roots as a singer/songwriter.

 | I was VERY surprised too, to see Paul Simon mentioned on that ´One Show´ I always find it a waste of my time when i have watched it...
so well done to Charlene Spiteri for mentioning someone or two who the ´style over substance´ telly prog makers etc; would likely never have heard of... |

 | Phil Ramone was a Producer and Engineer on "There Goes Rhymin´ Simon" "Live Rhymin´" & "Still Crazy After All These Years". He has produced several albums for Billy Joel.
I prefer Ramone to the bore Brian Eno anytime! |

 | What a sunny day
not a cloud is in the sky
and we all are singing songs
from the past and "coming soon".
Ramone first was engineer on Me and Julio (because Roy Halee was unavailable!) and never lost contact to Paul, involved in One-trick pony to CP to ROTS.

 | Was Ramone the sole engineer for TGRS ? I thought he had engineered a couple of songs only.
The fact that he is behind the console does not mean it is going to be a success, but it enhances the chances.
I have always said that Paulo should work with Lanois. The guy is wonderful at getting the best of the artists he has worked with (Dylan, Gabriel, U2, Harris, etc.). |

 | Yes mog, Ramone was "only" beneath the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section as main influence for TGRS.
Cat Stevens producer Paul-Samwell-Smith coproduced American Tune in London, which has a too sweet arrangement here imo.
The versions on Live Rhymin and Greatest Hits etc. are better.
Still crazy was more work and influence for Ramone and won him a grammy. |

 | When Simon (and later Billy Joel) came to work with Ramone he was already a star. for example, he had been the sound engineer of the famous Getz / Gilberto album including "The girl from Ipanema" and several other gorgeous tracks.
Apart from this, Paul Ramone is currently working to a cd which will be a tribute to George and Ira Gershwin ("Gershwin across America"). Paul Simon is scheduled to contribute too. The cd will be followed by a set of concerts that can be booked online.
Good to know Paul is so active! |
