 | Great site, thanks for running it. Keep up the good work!
As participants, I suppose "We stand for the neighborhood" - the neighborhood being a certain similarity of taste and way of thinking about things. The net can be great for bringing distant people who need each other together.

 | Hi
You are absolute right about the neighbourhood statement.
I would say a site is always only as good as the people who visit it - and here on this forum there are always interesting and very good postings. Just compare it with the general rude words you find on youtube comments. Millions of people visit these sites, but only a few post, and destroy the whole feeling there.
I know so many examples for that. The interesting thing is that we even do not have a so called troll here (we are Blessed). Normaly every forum has them. |

 | what is a "troll"? A grouchy person, finding faults?
I am just so happy that everyone is willing to converse in english-I would miss so much otherwise-
Wondered-the listings in other languages-are they the same as the english listings? |

 | It´s great that long time fans are still contributing to the forum. I like to look up past threads for information.
I think this forum is feeding my current obsession of the last 5 or so months, which is Paul Simon and his music. (This has taken over from my previous more mild obsession of reading the Harry Potter books over and over). I thought I go with it for a while and get over it. That hasn´t happened. I think I´m a fan but I still try to hide when I watch S&G Concert in Central park on the portable DVD (after kids have gone to bed), and I don´t like it when people ask what I´m listening to in the iPod because it´s always S&G or PS. I look for times in the day when I can go for a walk (with PS on the iPOd), and reject offers from friends to come with me. (btw lost 5 kilos since new years eve and now walk for 3/4 hour).
Must find time to do housework and look for a job.

 | My sons always ask if they should warn the police that a Paul Simon stalker is on the way when I am on my way to another concert. |

 | LOL funny my husband always says something similar!! AND he knows not to ask me to chose between himself and Paul.
Seriously though, some of the best conversations I´ve had have been on this site, so many people now including friends who grew up in totally different culture just want to discus s who is married to who and whether this or that relationship will last - amongst the so -called celebs I mean - not real life! this is still Ireland after all:) |

 | My husband tells people I´m listening to soft croonings of S&G that I picked up from the bargain box at the local op shop. (not true!) I haven´t told him I´ve ordered the Essential Paul Simon (CD/DVD) just to get the video clip of ´You Can Call Me Al´ with Chevy Chase. Can´t wait till that arrives.
I´m not really embarrassed to be PS fan but feel awkward because my sister´s husband´s name is Paul Simon and my 11yo son´s started saying ´is that what you do all day?´ |

 | He was born 1965ish so wouldn´t be named after PS, just coincidence. |

 | My Essential Paul Simon (CD/DVD) arrived, includes the video clips of Me and julio, You Can Call Me Al, The Boy In The Bubble, Diamonds, The Obvious Child, Father and daughter. Also TV appearances on Dick Cavett 1970, Loves Me Like A Rock and Sweeney sisters on SNL, and Homeward Bound with George Harrison.
The appearance on Dick Cavett talking about Mrs Robinson in 1970 looks like probably his first appearance, they don´t seem to know each other well, like they do in other later shows. Brilliant improvising with the guitar on Mrs Robinson. I wish they could put all his tv appearances on one DVD.
( I also picked up Very Best of Cat Stevens with excellent live performances on DVD. He was so great esp live.) |

 | Well, I´ve now got Cat Stevens (now Yusuf) on the iPod, with Paul and Art but that´s OK because I found that he was influenced by Paul Simon.
http://majicat.com/articles/rock71.htm
´... Alun Davies confessed he was worried that people would think he and Steve (Cat stephens ) sounded too much like Simon and Garfunkel (a notion that I´m sure had occurred to no one who?d seen them). Paul Simon?s mid-60?s stay in England, and the solo album that resulted from the stay, had indeed been an inspiration to Steve and to many other aspiring English folkies and songwriters. The Paul Simon Songbook (never released in the US) is still among Steve?s favorite albums. The Simon influence is there, in fully assimilated form, but only in some of the melodies. Cat?s songs are much brighter and freer than Simon?s. Steve?s not haunted by the same ghosts. He?s already exorcised them.´ ( Rock Magazine, May 24, 1971 )
Similar to S&G, performed ´folk-rock´ in 70s with Alun Davies "fingerwork" on the guitar, harmonizing and contributing backing vocals with Stevens.
Funny that CS wrote ´Father and Son´ and Paul wrote ´Father and Daughter´ .
and apparently CS wrote a song ´called something like ?Darling Mary,? or ´Darling Nell? and Paul wrote ´Darling Lorraine´. |

 | Me again ... sorry
but I´m so pleased to have found a link between Cat Stevens and Paul Simon.
In the CD booklet of Very Best of Cat Stevens he had an interesting life story growing up in the heart of London´s theatre district, in his teens frequenting clubs in Soho that Paul Simon and Al Stewart occasionally played at and enjoyed the artists melodic folk acoustic style.
Cat and S&G were the only two artists that I actually bought their greatest hits booklet of piano music when I was about 16. Learnt to play ´Bridge Over Troubled Water´ and ´kathy´s song ´ and ´Scarborough fair´ to a good standard and also ´Morning has broken´ and ´How can I tell you´ (beautiful Love song) also are great on piano. BOTW music almost the same as on the version on the studio album. Most of their songs meant for guitar tho, so piano music is not so good.
It´s only been the last year or so I´ve started playing again after about 15 years. Not sure why I stopped, kids distracted me I think. |

 | >> I´m not really embarrassed to be PS fan but feel awkward because my sister´s husband´s name is Paul Simon ´ >>
I was exposed as a Paul Simon fan today.
I had confessed to my husband Paul that I´d bought a new Paul Simon DVD, and he said ´Just remember which Paul Simon you´re have an affair with´ ...
Later we had family dinner with extended family, and my sister announced that she´s expecting, which is really special news as she is 45 and this is their first baby and they miscarried twins a couple of years ago. My husband Paul says ´make sure you don´t call it Paul junior cause there too many Paul Simon´s in this world. That other Paul Simon is giving him a headache. And goes on about my affair with Paul Simon and being on the forum and everything. It was quite funny.
Becoming a fan and participating on this forum has been exciting, and that spills over to other areas of your life. I´ve lost 7 kilos now from walking with the iPod, keen to play better squash and have a couple of paying jobs in the pipeline.
So this year is so far looking good, just got to keep up with the housework and get the kids to pull their weight. |
