 | In his upcoming album, due on February 15th, ´Scratch my back´, Peter Gabriel will cover song from various artists, including Simon´s ´The Boy In The Bubble´, from the Graceland album. All arrangements are for orchestra and do not include guitar or drum parts. Further information (and a nice podcast with information concerning the choice of the songs and the making of the album, plus the free download of one of the songs) on http://www.petergabriel.com/
Gabriel also considered ´Hearts And Bones´ and ´Father and daughter´ as possible candidates among Simon´s songs.
In a following project (called ´And I´ll scratch yours´), the songwriters whose songs have been sung by Gabriel, will arrange and perform one of Peter´s song. Paul Simon is scheduled to cover ´Biko´.

 | I´ve just listened to it and can´t really say that I like it. It hasn´t got much to do with the original anymore... Which doesn´t have to be a bad thing of course. Maybe I need to listen to it a couple of more times but right now I don´t like it. |

 | Listening to this very slow version brought me to wonder if Paul Simon alredy refers to Tschernobyl in the second verse. Graceland was released in August 1986 (recorded till June), the core melt happened in April 1986. Any ideas? |

 | It looks like Scratch My Back doesn´t please all PG´s fans. I read several comments at PG´s forum that they are disappointed with the album. They have been waiting for 8 years (sounds familiar :-)) for new music and think this album doesn´t cover it up. But there are also fans who think this album is fantastic.

 | Gabriel had said prior to release that he was expecting the album to divide people up.
He was quite right!
I quite like the album in general. Not all tracks are outstanding, but some are very interesting. As a whole, I find much pleasure to listen to it.
All in all, here is an example of veteran who could tour with his Old band (Genesis), but refuse it at any cost, and keep continuing exploring. |

 | Pauls cover of "Biko" is outstanding, one of the best tracks he has ever recorded, and PG fans are almost unanimous in registering their approval
In Pauls hands it becomes almost a hymn of lamentation.
Soft, sombre vocal. Plangent ring of guitar, sustained mournful cello, serenely drawing out the songs true elegiac force.
Haunting and memorable.
Ute, "Can`t Run But.. from ROTS(1990) I think is the PS lyric tha touches on Chernobyl "a cooling system burns out in the Ukraine... |

 | Also on facebook and youtube the reactions are very positive.
It´s indeed outstanding, musically and lyrically. Very different from PG´s version. This one is powerful in it´s own way. It is also interesting how Paul changed the lyrics here and there or switched the words, like in the third verse. These changes give you a vivid image, very metaphorical.
