Hi all

Is there a version of silent night/7 o´clock News without the news broadcast ?

Some say on the remastered version it´s split to the two speakers, but that´s not correct. Now I wonder whether there is any version of the song without the news.

BTW: Isn´t it a little weird that two jews are singing a christian song ? I know that the song was rather a political statement then an expression of their beliefs, but still..

I don´t think they were devout Jews. They also did God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and Star Carol.

Also, in later years, Artie released a Christmas album.

Did they do this as tribute to Lenny Bruce, as he ´learned the truth from Lenny Bruce´ in A Simple Desultory Philippic lyrics.

Me again,
I was looking at past forum threads and found that Lenny Bruce birthday is same day as Paul. He´s mentioned twice in his songs. He says his songs/albums are related or progress from one to the other, really interesting to take the journey from beginning. I´m only up to ´Still Crazy ´ so far.

Nick from Widnes England Writes:

Art Garfunkel did indeed record a christmas album it was called "The Animals Christmas" and also featured Amy Grant.

An other unusual album Art apperared on was "The Hunting Of The Snark" by Lewis Carol The album was produced and recorded by Mike Batt.

Mike Batt wrote the theme Bright Eyes for Watership Doown and got Art to sing the original vocals. Interesting fact although written on piano Mike had to record the track minus piano as the studio was unable to get one tuned in time.

Nick from Widnes writes:

Further to my previous answer. Mike Batt in the 70´s was responsible for the music for the children;s tv adaptation of the Wombles and the theme from the movie.

However his biggest sucess was discovering Katie Meula.

Both Comfort and Joy, and Star Carol were to have been intended S&G Christmas singles, but never appeared. They probably thought it may have looked too nakedly commercial.

However singing them, and to a large extent "Benedictus" also, were for reasons purely musical. Namely they were exercises in harmony, rather than anything they actuaally signified.

Silent Night,as pointed out, was chosen deliberately to make a point. I know of only the version with broadcast.
