 | I think there is an upcoming edition of Rock Band for playstation 3 that will include ´SoS´ and ´I Am A Rock´...
This helps to entertain Simon´s music flame better than any other boring compilations.

 | The releases are actually available now as downloadable content (say from the PlayStation store), and should work on either of the Rock Band games (not Beatles Rock Band though). I haven´t tried them yet. I´d Love to play along to some solo PS stuff. |

Rock Band and all other Guuitar Heros are all well and good. However the best way to hear and play Paul Simon´s music is via real live band performance.
As a guitarist myself I would much rather get out my acoustic or electric guitar and play. Rather than get out a replica guitar wagle the bar and puch buttons on a fake fret board any day.
to the kids who have x box play station etc and use the fake guitar game great.
Nothing beats playing the real thing trust me I am a guitarist!! |

 | I agree. My 15 yo is now teaching himself guitar, and sounds great already. We´ve had a guitar in the house for all his life, but just now started to get keen. I got guitar hero for the kids, but think he realises he´d rather play the real thing. Hope he sticks with it.
As a guitarist do you have any advice to keep him keen??
He´s playing steel string acoustic, but wants electric guitar. |

Hi Helen advice for a budding guitarist. Where to start, practise every day learn each chord position on the fret board so you can use the correct fingering and actual tips of the flesh, not finger nails to hold the chords down. Get a good teacher for solo one on one lessons, in a class setting The Teacher can not allways check the hand positions correctly and you learn the rong way to hold the strings down as had at wrong angle etc.
When you son gets good he will want more than one guitar, not just an electric. I started learning aged 13/14 result of hearing Paul Simon. Now age 38 I have 4 acoustic and 4 electric guitars.
When it comes to the best guitars your spoilt for choice. However set a realistic price range and look for a good quality instrument. Of course acoustic wise CF Martin do very good low end priced guitars as well as the more expensive signature end style such as the 0028 Eric Clapton. Also try Yamaha guitars, Gibson or Epiphone.
Electric wise again choice and price. I play A Squire Telecaster and Squire Stratocaster, both very good budget guitars. However I have recently bought a Fender Eric Clapton Signature Stratocaster. This is oviously more expensive and louder.
Good luck hope the advice helps. There are loads of other forum members who play guitar and can also offer advice. Hope mine can help some what.

 | Hi Nick, Thanks for the advice. I´ve just rediscovered Paul Simon a couple of months ago, never knew what a great guitarist he is. I found video of him and Eddie playing Anji got excited and got Tim in to watch. He didn´t say much but I´m sure he was impressed and is now trying out finger picking. Sounds great. I´m amazed he´s picked it up so soon.
What do you think of the online guitar lessons to learn? So far he´s learnt from performing arts at school, and friends and online lessons. I know a real teacher would be the way to go, but I think he wants to be able to play a bit before he gets lessons.
I´d Love for him to learn theory and maybe write songs. |
