 | After beng off the road for many years (and not the touring-ist artist at any time during his career), Paul has now done tours in ´99,´00,´01,´02,´03,´04,´06,´08, ´09
Pretty great. Wonder what brought this about - increase in the price of concert tickets in the concert market.
Hope Paul keeps working - writing, recording, touring

 | Well, what I understood ist that he is touring often during his childrens holidays - so maybe he see´s that as a cheap way of going on vacation ;) |

 | What brought this great run since 1999 - easy THE CAPEMAN.
The real change of focus came following the demise of the biggest investment (creative and financial) of his career.
Why it has been a very pleasant Surprise to me is that he is on record in the BBC documentary if the mid 90´s as saying he didn´t care for performing and touring and at that time he beleived that side of his career was over (famous last words).

 | The world tour 1991/92 was planned as his goodbye, with about 150 shows and maybe the best band the world has ever seen. And probably more than 3 Million visitors including CP.
So thanks in some way, that the Capeman hasn`t had a run of several years in New York and afterwards elsewhere.
I prefer seeing Paul Simon live instead of Andrew Loyd Webber. |

 | I think Paul likes to perform these days and even more he likes to play with his band. He is a big star but his ticket prices are still reasonable if you compare them to some other artists. After his big success of Graceland, ROTS and the world tour he thought he reached the highest point in his career. More touring could not satisfy him anymore and don´t forget he started a new family. Paul is a real family man. When Harper was young he didn´t make long tours.
After the Capeman he could easily have stopped his career but thank God he still heard these sounds in his head and wanted to make music. Like Marc Anthony said, a good artist like Paul never goes away.
I am very happy Paul toured so much the last ten years, becoming a big fan in the nineties I was capable to see and enjoy his concerts live 8 times :) |

 | Barb, you are absolute right - one continuity is that Paul always does what he said he will never do.
And what he never said: I will not record an album with Art Garfunkel again.
Or did he!!!?? :- |

On the other hand, during that period he stayed home and wrote some new music instead! Going on tour is the "easy way" to keep your name in peoples mind (and make money), creating new music is much harder (and may not bring in that much more money).
Even if Paul has been on tour most of the ten years, he hasn´t really made any BIG tours, has he? Seldom more than a month or so. That´s not really much compared to other artist like Bob Dylan or for that matter, Art Garfunkel... ;-) |
