I have been trying to find a list of recording dates for the Simon and Garfunkel catalogue. Wikipedia has most of the recording dates for the first 3 albums, but none for Bookends, Bridge Over Troubled Water, or bonus songs from the box set.

The last two albums were recorded over quite a wide frame of time, so i´d really like to know the chronology of those recordings. Anyone with info would be greatly appreciated.

I´m not quite sure, but I think some of that information is included on the ´Old Friends´ 3 CD set released in 1997. Like Mark Lewisohn´s chronology of The Beatles recordings,it would be interesting to know what date/time Paul and Art laid down tracks and overdubs for individual songs. Same goes for Paul´s solo work too!

If I remember correctly, the box set Old Friends (from 1997) has recording days for each song.

The earlier recordings (the two first albums or so) I can accept those to be accurate. On the later I dont think they are accurate at all, since songs like "The Boxer" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" obviously were recorded during a period of time. I presume they worked on several songs at the same time.

The information about the recording data to all the S&G albums is a big mystery! That is, in my opinion. The ´Old Friends´ 3cdset gave data, but if you look at the list I emailed you, for instance ´You don´t know where your interest lies´ was recorded on June 14th 1967 according to the liner-notes, but that was the day when they probably started on it. On the 21st of June they were still working on it. But that is all out of ´second hand´ information I am afraid. Your question also reminded me of the fact that all re-releases were done without any thorough inoformation at all: who were the musicians on ´Feelin´ groovy´ (yes the rhythm session of the Dave Brubeck Quartet, I have it confirmed by drummer Joe Morello. Why were there 1970-recordings of (what I call) Everly Brothers songs , like ´Roving Gamber´, added to ´Sounds Of Silence´ on the remaster-cd? ´Blues run the game´ makes sense. Where did ´Somewhere they can´t find me´ and ´We´ve got a groovey thing goin´ come from in April 1965? Left over from the sessions for ´Wednesday Morning, 3 AM´? Nothing is answered in the liner notes! And if you ask Columbia or Legacy, no one knows it. A real shame I think.

That reminds me of...Does anyone know if S&G were planning a new album in 1970? Since the recorded demos of ´Barbriallen´, ´Rose of Aberdeen´ and ´Roving Gambler´ on July 8th 1970 (See ´Sounds Of Silence´ remaster). Maybe a hommage to The Everly Brothers? They sang during their last tour of 1969-1970 each night a song that was also recorded by the Everlys, like ´Bye bye Love´, ´Silver haired daddy of mine´. Any thoughts?

What Xmas album project are you referring to? There was an album released on a subsidary of Columbia, Columbia Special Products. The album was called ´The best of christmas´(CSP P 15460) released in 1981. It has the song ´The star carol´ by S&G on it. So far the only vinyl evidence of a S&G Christmans song I have seen. Can you tell more?

I seem to have read somewhere that S&G had (vague) plans of doing an album like you suggested, Rob. However, I don´t think it got much further than them testing out a few (three?) songs in front of a michrophone.

Hello Hakan! But in July 1970? When they would break-up? They did their last show also in July in the Forest Hill Tennis Stadium. Why would the producers of the Remaster CDs include it on a 1966 album? I just wonder!
